Opt-In Page or Sales Page?

I am running adword campaign right now and I am getting good results in terms of clicks. However, my conversion to opt-ins is dismissal. I am considering changing the ad to my sales page.

What would you do if you have both the opt-in page and the sales page? Where will you drive your traffic to?

Opt-in. Your conversion will be higher and you will be
able to sell to those people over and over again.

Agreed! Plus they will already know and trust you, provided you give them good content.

Stick with opt-in. However, test different opt-in pages to up conversions. If you are doing ppc, just have a distinct url destinations that rotate. See what works better. I just had ot change a ppc opt-in from video to static. I always prefer video, but found out I had better rate from just a plain site with image, benefits, and opt-in for free report. Never would have guessed until I tested.

What have you done to improve the conversions on your squeeze page?

Definitely go with opt-ins because with Adsense you're giving away potential customers to your competitors. Build your own list which is an asset you control instead of relying on Google for income.

Sorry, got to rephrase. I don't have adsense on my squeeze page. I am running adword campaign.

You should really get a video on there telling visitors exactly what to do....The easiest way is to do a screen capture video, narrate it and pop it on.....

Tell them what signing up will do for them, then tell then to sign up.....rinse and repeat

Definitely go with the opt in. I disagree that having video will dramatically increase your opt ins but it's worth testing. It depends on the niche as well, some are better suited for video. I find that a simple squeeze page usually works best. The more bells and whistles I added the less opt ins I got!

What are you giving them in return? What are you offering a an incentive to get the opt in? Maybe what you're offering is not what they want or is something that is not as appealing.

I would probably split test different opt in with different free offers and keep the one getting the better results. For instance do video in one, text in the other one and see the result.Different industries have different preferences so you may find that video doesn't covert a much or the other way around. You won't be sure till you test it

    Hope this helps

Thanks Warriors for the input. At least one thing is for sure,, I will run with opt-in. Will plan my squeeze page again and do some split testing to make sure I maximize my conversion too.

I think you already have the answer to your question, opt in page. Simply because you can do so much, like build a relationship with your prospects through your autoresponder messages, brand yourself, and build your list which will enable you to sell to them over and over again like Tyrus said, but you gotta build a relationship with them FIRST so they get to know and trust you.

Hope i was able to help.

Always an opt-in page. It is as true today as it was
when I first heard it in 1998.

If you send people to the salespage, you have only
      once chance to sell them.

Build a list and you can contact them forever.

Drum roll... yes unless they unscribe. In marketing
it has always been taught, it takes a subscriber 7
to 9 times of seeing your advertising to buy.

Buils a list and feed forever.

Seed them to you salesletter and starve.

      Hope that helps.

I know the consensus here is for an optin page...And more than likely, that's the right approach, but optins will not always be the answer for all markets. The real answer here is test them both. Set up two separate sales channels and measure your results. It's the only way to know for sure.

Another thing to ask yourself is, how long do you plan on being in the market. If you're looking for a few quick sales but aren't interested in cultivating a list, then the argument for lifetime value of your optin is not important. It's important that your strategy fit your goal for this campaign.

In my opinion opt in works well on ppv rather then adwords.

I would stick to opt in.
I had a look at your link in your signature. The squeeze page looks great but you have a spelling mistake that in my view doesnt help your credibility.
This is copy pasted from your page:

"Enter your details below and have the report send to you instantly!"

It should be "sent" not send.

Hope this helps your sign up rate

Guys, you might not have noticed it, but the topic is from 2010.

Anyways, opt-in before selling, and if there are visits and little opt-ins problem is in
the conversion, it should be settled with split testing.

My question to you is would you try to score with a hot girl right on the spot or get her phone number so you can take her out on multiple dates to increase your chances?

    Without question the answer is.....

Send the traffic to an optin page.

After optin send them to the sales page. Most do not buy on the first visit. Sending the traffic to an optin page may cost you some sales....but who cares....because if you build the list and follow up correctly you will make many...many...many...more sales because of your valuable marketing list.

The problem may be the squeeze page you're using and the carrot you're offering to the website visitor.

Setup a couple of different squeeze pages and track what works best. Offer different things to the visitor to optin. See what works best.

For example....for one of my website hosting services I'm testing 10+ squeeze pages with different offers to the website visitor. Some are ebooks, video, coupons, etc. I start with a bunch and then drop the pages that don't work.

Do this and see what works.

The opt-in page. Conversion rates will differ depending on the niche. But you will get more sales and higher conversions if you were to build a list first.
