| I don't believe in going over 2%. More than that and the keyword saturation looks too obvious. I usually do 1% for my clients, which works well for them.

Hi Use the keyword/keyword phrase in your title, first paragraph, last paragraph and once more in the body of the article. That's what I aim for at least. Mary |

And with using the keyword in the first paragraph, I try and shoot for the first sentence in that first paragraph.

I've always tried to shoot for 1.5% keyword density. Definitely in the title, definitely early in the first paragraph, and usually in the last paragraph as well. Then make sure you have enough in the middle to bring the density up to 1.2% - 1.5% and you should be good. And some people forget to count the title when determining density. That's a mistake, because it is a MUST to have the keywords in the title. If you don't count the title when measuring density, then you run the danger of going well over 2% density when the article is assessed by the SE's. |

Agreed. I like a 1.5% keyword density in my articles, so if I write a 300 word article I will generally use my keyword 4 to 5 times. This works very well for me. I can't imagine using a 4% density. That would be 12 times in a 300 word article, and that seems like WAY too much to me. Just my opinion |

I like a 1 to 1.5% KW density in my articles... the title, intro, middle, and end...

I'm with Mary BUT, if it's natural for it to be more or less, that's what I'll do. LSI is important as well, which I also find comes naturally as long as you prep yourself with the words ahead of time.

I never worry about keyword density. Instead I focus on what I want the article or content to do. Do I want the reader to click on an affiliate link? Do I want the reader to click on a link to get more info? Just make your content read natural with plenty of related terms along with your main keywords. Definately have your keyword in the title, then once or twice in the content. This is what's been working well for me anyways. Travis |

Something I learnt about keyword density is that it changes over time because Google changes it's formula. The fundamental of enjoyable reading for humans don't change. So if your article is enjoyable for people to read and there's a natural flow in the keyword, I don't think there's need for concern in keyword density. Asher |

I agree with Asher, just put it below 3% ~4% will do.. The key to rank high still falls on the back links, focus build more back links for long term ranking! |

I believe keyword density is old news in terms of SEO. I have noticed a shift in what my clients want me to do when I write keyword articles. A few years ago, density was king. Now, LSI (latent semantic indexing) seems to hold more weight. LSI is the presence of related keywords in the article, in a natural way. Most of us write this way anyhow - it makes the articles look more natural. Lately, the routine has been: Keyword in headline Keyword in first sentence (or first paragraph) Keyword in last sentence (or last paragraph) Body of article: related keywords if they fit in naturally I haven't had a client worry about keyword density for quite a while. At least a year. |

Naturally, if you want to optimize a website page for good SEO you go with 5-7%. But articles can be a little lower since you want to write very "natural" stuff and not tend to optimize too much for SEO, so 2-3% is reasonable there.

There are always exceptions to everything. This morning I read an article that had so many keywords the author must have thought that they were stuffing a turkey - that's what I thought until I read it properly. The writer had very cleverly worked the keywords in to make the article seem natural. I enjoyed reading it and it's rare that I enjoy reading anything with so many keywords.
