Multiple domain hosting

Hi Everyone,

I am a newb. Now thats outta the way.

I am confused with hosting of multiple domains as addons.

If you have various niches that you are working on, do they have to be hosted individually? This could get expensive if that's what's done.

Or do you have one domain ie. yourname.com, and then have the niches as addon domains.

I hope I haven't confused you, as you can see I am confused, so putting it into words is difficult.

Regards,

Corey

I have two Bluehost accounts and several domains as add-ons in both accounts. I wouldn't pay for a separate account for each website. The only reason I opened a second account was for an SSL certificate.

Yes you can use addons. Some will prefer to use a reseller account because it gives you a separate control panel for each site.

I agree with Andrew and JGant. There's no need to keep buying new hosting accounts for separate niche websites. To the viewer, they will never know they are on the same account, and if they did, so what?

Get one hosting account that allows for unlimited domains, preferably a site that uses cPanel for its dashboard. Then use the add-on domain from a master account that you determine.

As Andrew said, it's also possible for you to get an account where you add separate accounts to the same hosting account. This is usually labeled as getting access to WHM or web host manager. It makes it easier to transfer a site later if you ever want to sell it.

    Good luck,

If you are just starting, then a host that allows specified or 'unlimited' add on domains is fine. Yes, use your purchased niche domains as add on domains, use the appropriate DNS pointing to point all of your relevant domains (if hosted elsewhere) to your main host's server.

Bear in mind too that you can normally add or use sub-domains on each of your main and add on domains, which gives other options.

Try not to spend too much on the hosting, important though it is, just get the basic understanding under your belt and focus on your business.

      Just my thoughts,

      Jeff.
