What is a good domain name?

I am about to purchase a domain from ipage but I can't think up a good domain name. Are domain names really important?

    Hi,

    Domain names are fairly important if your looking to do SEO.

    try to have your domain name include one of your target keywords to help you rank for it.

    try to avoid dashes, but if its taken without, no big deal.

    eg 'yourkeyword.com' is better than 'your-keyword.com'

      It would be best if the domain name will reflect what your site is about. Also if you planning to target certain geographical location you should choose your domain accordingly.

      Yes - for 2 reasons:

      with keywords to help with boosting search engine ranking.

      The second way a domain name could be useful is
      to have it as a brand. Have is so that the domain
      name is associated with you or what you have to offer.

      For example, Google associated with searching and
      Facebook for social networking.

      I would say that the first option is the way to go.
      (Facebook had $500,000 spent on it to help get the
      brand recognition.)

      Make sure the domain is as short as possible and
      easy to spell and try to have it as close to the
      keyword/niche of your site as possible.

    what are your goals?

    what are your traffic sources?

    a domain name could be very important or near meaningless but those factors depend on you and your marketing strategy.

    SEO traffic, it's important

    Type-in traffic, it's important

    PPC traffic, not important

    Ad traffic, not important

    and so on and so on...
