Confused, frustrated and stuck?

If you're confused, frustrated, stuck, lost etc. please read this post. THIS will help you.

I haven't been on this forum for very long, but I have been in sales and marketing at a Fortune 500 company for over 14 years and have built a business that generates around six figures a month.

I'm not some big shot or anything like that. Even with the business I'm in, I've pretty much done everything wrong I could. Hey, we all have our own struggles and challenges. But, you don't care about that, anyway.

Back to my point. This forum is incredible. I love the passion and drive and energy everyone has. It's pretty amazing actually. As I've spent the past several months reading everything on the forum, one really big thing keeps sticking out to me.

As a person who has been in business for a long time I see a common theme repeating itself with people who are trying to make their mark in the IM world.

Now I know this may be a little controversial, but the problem I see is that Internet marketing, in and of itself, is not a business. It is a marketing medium. No different than TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, etc.

The lure into IM is the passive income and lifestyle etc. But what people really want is their own business, that they control, that can offer the income to support the freedom of lifestyle they desire, while doing something that is fun, exciting and allows you to collaborate with some really cool people. Right?

IF you are having a difficult time making money...real money...or even enough to just pay your bills, you are missing a core piece of starting and running a business.

This is the piece of your business that is equivalent to the beating heart. It will not work with out it!

A business is about being of service to society with your own personal gifts. Its about being an expert in something and sharing that knowledge with your market.

What service do you provide to solve peoples problems? or what Product do you provide that can solve a specific problem people face? Thats what business's do. Provide services and/or products that solves problems in the markets they target.

People that are successful using online marketing are experts in their fields. They have a business product or service they offer and use the internet to get the message out in all the ways you already know of.

The money comes from the expertise that they dedicate their life to in the name of helping their market solve problems. You get paid the equivalent to the amount of value you provide to society and nothing more.

The vast majority if million dollar marketers out there are doing something they love. The million dollar IMers out there, that own and sell the products you buy, love the niche they are in and work diligently to be the masters of that craft.

If you need any proof, that's easy. Ok, lets go big, Frank Kern...Sure he has made money in a lot of markets and niches, but he always positioned himself as an expert in any area (including dog training) he has sold. But at the end of the day he is an expert in launching products, selling via email and copy-writing. But he is an expert in something.

Mike Filsame is an expert in affiliate marketing. Steve pavlina is an expert in personal development, Dan Kennedy is an expert in copywriting and direct response. You can go on and on.

Don't get me wrong, they all use the internet to market themselves and their products, but they are experts who offer their expertise to business owners who have problems in their areas of expertise.

I Love internet marketing, but I sell a service. I use internet marketing strategies to generate leads, but I also use print, direct mail, partnerships, cross promotions, affiliates, and referrals to drive leads.

Every successful "internet marketer" has a specific expertise and business model that they use to generate leads, convert sales and service clients.

The opportunities really are endless. Starting a business starts from the inside out. Finding that which you were put on this earth to do and provide that to people, will lead you to your million dollars in revenue. Anything else is just unfocused confusion, which is what most are feeling in their internet "business".

I love the passion and drive everyone here on this forum has. This forum represents the next generation of small business owners that will carry our great country to more heights. The purpose of this post is to guide the desire and energy of our passionate group to a more productive and profitable horizon, instead of the endless uncertainty, doubt and confusion.

Every million dollar business starts from the passion of its founder in an area of expertise.

What do you want to be know for? What knowledge do you have that can help others? What service would you enjoy doing that could help others? What do you enjoy learning about? What do you naturally dream about and talk about and feel real good about? What do you do in your spare time?

What ever you love doing has business and marketing opportunities around it. EVERYTHING has business opportunities around it.

Focus on what those things are. Then identify the marketing and sales opportunities that existing around the things you already have experience, knowledge and interest in.

No matter what your interests are, there's businesses that surround those "things". The marketing knowledge your getting in IM will serve you handsomely in THOSE areas.

Does this make sense? what are your feelings?

Tell me your thoughts and beliefs on this....

Tony

Very True Daryl. However that doesn't mean that there isn't a market opportunity for the product or service, and it definitely doesn't mean you can't use some select IM strategies to reach your customer base. Now you may need to "niche out" a little to hit a customer base, but there is always a way.

Now don't me wrong, if your selling goat recipes to farmer Joe, you might have a difficult time, but this may be a hidden passion for cooking or unique recipes for pets or something that would be marketable to an audience online. But the passion to pursue the expertise needs to be there and part of the passion is the vision to see the monetary opportunities in it.

Tony, you hit on a very important point here. IM is just like any other niche, and in order to truly prosper from it long-term you need to be passionate about whatever sub-niche it is in IM that is your specialty, and the products and services that you offer have to genuinely provide value to the target market you serve.

Many people get the wrong idea about IM, and think they can blindly work on it and power their way through even if they don't have the slightest interest in what they're doing. In my opinion, that's the biggest mistake you can possibly make because even though you may experience some initial success, chances are incredibly high you'll burn out pretty fast because you don't truly enjoy and aren't really interested in this niche.

IM is just like any other business. If you don't enjoy it at all, what you'll end up doing is create a very demanding and rigorous full-time job for yourself!

So true Paul. You will burn out if you dont like what your doing. The most important thing about liking and having interest in what you doing, is that to be successful, I mean really successful, million dollars a year successful, you have to constantly be learning about your product, service and market. Markets are fluid and consistently move, grow and change, and if you don't stay on the front of the market and pitch to where the market is going you will get left behind. Now compound being left behind AND not really having interest and passion in what you're doing. Bad combo, brother. You know what you'll be left with? Going back to what I posted originally and doing it the right way.

I'm fairly new with IM and I can admit to being one of those people who are in the "confused" and "stuck" categories.

Every page I turn to there's an expert this or that. Every link I click on leads me to a page that guarantees money in a short period of time.

Yes it would be nice to speak to someone who knows a lot about a certain niche. Yes it would be fabulous to have a nest egg by the time I'm 30.

But what always bugs me is the fact that out of the hundred percent of advertisements I see or people I meet this is what I get out of the majority: Blah, blah, blah.

They all start to sound the same. Same marketing strategies. Same logic. Same shoe sizes for all I know. What I keep looking for is someone or something that stands out. Something that does not need to be sold to me. Something that actually makes me listen. And you are right. That something is heart.

I'm glad to meet you and know that you're an "expert" worth listening to.

Thanks MsMikayla. Thats very thoughtful of you to say. Thank you.

Here's the thing. Your looking outside to everyone one else to show you what to do or introduce you to something you can grab hold of and believe in. I did the same thing for years. Please allow me give to give you a MAJOR gift give right now. You wont find the answers outside of yourself. As I said in the post, it starts on the inside. Answer those questions I posted. What keeps coming up? Research people in those niches. who ar the ones that stand out and seem to speak to you. I'm not talking about "this guys teaches affiliate marketing" and "this guy teaches PPC" and this guy teach "SEO", blah, blah, blah. Those are all just marketing techniques for real business opportunities. Now the guys teaching that stuff are pro's in those techniques, but they are using them to promote real businesses. What can you do to be of service to people. How can you help?

Rome was built in a day, but with the frustration and lack of the dollars rolling, I am determined that with a little persistence, steadfast perseverance and an un-shaking consistency, I would begin to live the internet lifestyle.

Iroko, that's the passion and determination you need to succeed no matter what you're doing!

One problem is that many people getting into IM have absolutely not skills or experience, so are pushed straight down the cookie cutter route, which breaks them in a few months.

Jazbo, no doubt man. I agree. The online based business world is Information based. I can't say this enough...SEO, affiliate marketing, PPC, PPV, PPA, articles, vidoes, social media, so on and so forth are not businesses! They are ways to generate leads for an offer, a real offer of product or service.

Its about finding a market you have some affinity with, having a service to help people in that market solve a problem and using those IM tools to connect with your potential target market.

Anyone regardless of experience and skill, can research a market, see what the market is looking for, use internet marketing techniques to speak to that pain and desire of that market and attract people to the service to solve that problem.

Once you know the markets problem, you can quickly and easily research and compile answers to help people. You really can just "quarterback" it all. No major skills required, but the care to help those people succeed in their areas of pain and or desire.

Believe me, there are millions of things that people have passion for yet there's no money in it. Why?

There is no starving crowd found there.

King Shilloh, yes at that point I do agree with you. But most of the times when you like to do something with passion. You will succeed because of the motivation that you want that this will succeed, at the end the differences are the numbers.

      King Shiloh,

Anything can be tweaked and adjusted to match a market. Don't dismiss answering the questions in to post to "well theres no starving market". The easiest way to find a starving market is to look back on your life up to this point. What would you tell yourself about business, life, finances, relationships etc, if you could talk to yourself ten years ago? Theres millions of people starving to not make the same mistakes you've made in areas of life that you have succeeded in and who better to teach that than you, the guy who already made it and can help them make it faster than you did.

    Well said

I spent a lot of time writing for others, which I love, but this wasn't something I could pour my passion into - I was writing other people's products and yet wasn't really sharing what I know. It is only in the past month or so that this one point has really started to hit home for me, and now I am moving things to where I am sharing a passion, using things that I know to help others - I trust (and plan for) the money side of things to fall into place.

Was it Zig Zigler who said that you could make money by helping other people reach their goals (sorry for mushing up the quote, it is really late at night in my neck of the woods). Anyway that is the belief system i am working from on the passion side of things, and perhaps that is why your post resonated with me so much

    Thank you for sharing
    Lisa
