How do you transfer files with Filezilla?

O.k. Im trying to upload a Wordpress Theme and I can't get Filezilla to transfer my files. When I try to create a new subdirectory it says anonymous users aren't able to create a new directory. Also When I try to transfer files into an the existing public file it is unable to do this. I ran the test wizard and it says my browsing session closed suddenly. I am running Windows XP, With Norton Security Suite, through a Lynksys router. Any help is greatly appreciated!

wordpress theme? But you don't need to use Filezilla for it actually. If it's zip file, then you can upload it once you are logged in to your blog. (themes>add new>upload)

It's hard to tell where you are stuck.

I don't know but with filezilla should be like this: log in> public_html>domain>wp-content>themes. And you drag your theme folder there.

    Hope this helps somehow.

Maybe you're not logged in correctly? Is that why it says you're an anonymous user?

In Site Manager, is your logon type set to "normal"? And you have your username and password in there?

Make sure your username and password are correct that you got from your hosting service.

To upload a theme you shouldn't have to create a subdirectory. Like Margo said above you upload the theme to the themes folder under wp-content.

If you are trying to upload a WordPress theme you can do that straight from your WordPress dashboard.

What you want to do is go to appearances on the left-hand side. Once you click on appearances click on add new.

Then, it will ask you to upload your theme. You simply upload your theme and then it will ask you if you want to review it or activate it.

Just click activate and your theme will be ready to rock 'n roll brother.

    Talk soon,

It sounds like you may be a bit confused. While there is an alternative method to use right in the Wordpress dashboard for installing a new theme (as mentioned in the posts above), you do NOT create a new subdirectory for the Wordpress theme you're trying to upload via FTP. All you need to do is FTP it to the .../wp-content/themes folder. Let me repeat this again for emphasis, there is absolutely NO need to create a new directory to upload a new WP theme!

P.S. If your FTP session is repeatedly cutting you off, make sure you have Windows Firewall turned off, as this will definitely interfere with your FTP session!

    O.k.

    I think I'm confused (well I know I am!)

Under Host: I thought I was supposed to enter my domain name. Am is supposed to use my username/password from my wordpress account or with my hosting service (hostgator)

I think I'm not entering in the correct host name because I do not see any subfolders for Wordpress themes. I'll keep playing with it.

Yeah your domain is right for the host. You get the username and pass from your cpanel in the ftp section. Make sure you have logon type set to "normal" and enter your ftp username and pass.
