My website ranking....?

Ok, so I know that submitting articles is one of the most popular ways to generate backlinks, which it can do a good job for your site's rankings in Google.
Regarding my site rankings....I have a mini site and i think some KW's have been inserted in to the website but not really in the content as such. So when I am generating backlinks to my website, how will I know what KW's my website is ranking under and if my site is creeping up at all?
Thanks if you can answer this.

SEOmoz | Rank Tracker Tool - Track Google Rankings Automatically will check if you are in the top 50 for your search term.

I'm sure if you get their paid service they will go deeper. I just put my keywords into Google and start flipping through the pages. It doesn't take long to go through 10 pages or so, and if I'm not ranked that high I don't really care. Well actually, I want to make sure I am there because if not I did something wrong (like keyword stuffing, d'oh!)

      Thanks foxanthony,

I am still feeling abit lost here and really hope someone can help me out .

I have 50 Keywords my web developer inserted into my website. These keywords are not really in my content very much as my copywriter just wrote a relatively short sales letter. When I looked today the only KW's showing in the top ten pages was the KW of my domain name:

      1. What can I do to rank under these KW's that have been inserted into the site or at least a few of them?

      2. When I write articles to gain backlinks on my site, how will I know which KW's are benefitting as in ranking and creeping up in google? If I have a KW for example "loose weight quickly" and I want to target that KW to rank higher, would I have to write many articles using this particular KW and anchor text links with the KW "loose weight quickly" ??

Please can someone point me in the right direction ... are there other things I can do, like Pinging, RSS etc. Appreciate any help.
      Thanks!

When you say keywords have been “inserted” into your website do you mean meta tags or within the content?

Why are you trying to target 50 keywords at once?

You should pick “one” main keyword as a starting point & build content around this keyword. As you create content on your site you'll naturally start ranking for other keywords.

Use Google analyitics to see what other keywords your site is ranking for.

You should just focus on “one” main keyword to start with & most of your anchor text back links should contain the main keyword.

    How old is your site?

What's the competition like on page one of Google for your niche / keyword?

OK, I have now dug deeper and have found a few KW's i am currently ranking.
Whilst I am here again, when you see your website listed on a page, who decides what the title of you site is and then the couple of lines of description underneath? One of my KW's that I happen to be currently showing under is based on the words of the title of my website listing?

I am sure this will all get very interesting once I understand things a little more.

Are you trying to target 50 keywords on one page?

If you are you will never rank.

Barry$, BIG thanks. Yeh for some unknown reason I just asked the web developer to insert these KW's into the the meta tags, they are not really in the content as my site just consists of a simple sales letter coupled with pages for terms and privacy etc.

As you can see I would really benefit from some advise here and would really appreciate if you could answer as many of these questions so I can start on the right track: My site is a couple of weeks old.

      1. I will now pick "one keyword" my competition for this KW is just over 1 million and the searches are about 100 a day. You mention "As you create content on your site you'll naturally start ranking for other keywords"
I was not planning on adding any content to my site as it is just really a mini site - landing page with a sales letter. How would I then start to rank for other KW's and how do you suggest I add content to a site like this? I guess now that I need to make sure this main KW is at least mentioned in the sales letter a few times!!?

      2. You mention "Use Google analyitics to see what other keywords your site is ranking for." Just checked and all I could see in my account was stats regarding page views etc, nothing about keywords????

      3. You mention "You should just focus on "one" main keyword to start with & most of your anchor text back links should contain the main keyword." I will try and write as many articles now using this KW and text back link. I was also intending to use many other keywords and guess I would not use my main KW text backlinks in these "other" articles? or could I???

      4. Should I get these other 49 KW's removed on from the meta tags or will they do not harm staying there????

Thanks if you or anyone else can make help me out, I really do appreciate this help.

He is asking whether he can know if his site is going
to rank for keywords other than his main keyword.

Unless you know what keywords you want to rank
for, you can't check them. The exception is if you
get traffic from Google from those keywords(check
    with your analytics package).

Don't expect to see your site rank well within the first week of being intexed. It takes time & work to gain a good ranking.

I will now pick "one keyword" my competition for this KW is just over 1 million and the searches are about 100 a day. You mention "As you create content on your site you'll naturally start ranking for other keywords"I was not planning on adding any content to my site as it is just really a mini site - landing page with a sales letter. Competition of 1 million doesn't mean anything really. You need to take a closer look at the competition on the first page of Google as that's where you want you site to rank.

When looking at the competition you need to look at the page rank of each site. You want to see at least a few low page rank with a PR of 0 or 1.

See if there are any sites that are optimized for your keyword.

    Ask yourself...

Do they have the keyword in the domain name?
Do they have the keyword in the page title or description?
Do they have keyword rich unique content?
    How old are their sites?

You need to look at the number of back links your competition have pointing to their websites, the lower the better.

Are you using a platform like word press for your website or is it just as static HTML page?

If it's just a small one page website then you're going to have a hard time getting it to rank unless the competition is VERY week.

You mention "You should just focus on “one” main keyword to start with & most of your anchor text back links should contain the main keyword." I will try and write as many articles now using this KW and text back link. I was also intending to use many other keywords and guess I would not use my main KW text backlinks in these "other" articles? or could I???

Just focus on one keyword just now.

Should I get these other 49 KW's removed on from the meta tags or will they do not harm staying there????

I don't know if they'll do any harm but their certainly not doing any good. Meta tags mean very little in ranking a site, stuffing it with 49 keyword is a waste of time. It's more about unique, quality content & back links.

I think the search engine pulls the title & uses that as the title & the description is the first part of the content on your site.

If you use word press you can install a plug in that allows you to have whatever description you like.

If you like you could drop me a PM with you target keyword & website URL so I can take a closer look to see what you need to do.

    Is this your own product?
