Default Best Way to Migrate Sites from Subdomain to Domain?

Hello,

Got a head-scratching problem. I sure could use some advice on how to handle it...

A couple of years ago I started several new sites as subdomains of my main domain at the time, ya23.com. Now 3 of them have outgrown subdomain status and I have set up stand-alone domain sites for them.

I have promoted by article submissions and have 600+ articles out there with links to kw optimized pages within these subdomain sites. Of course these articles are scattered all over the net by now. 2030 have been 'published' at ezinearticles.com and subsequently re-published elsewhere. 400 articles are live at EA right now. Those 3 sites average 25-30 visitors a day from people who clicked on a link for an article posted at EA.

One of the sites has grown to 408 pages indexed and 1100 backlinks, ranking on pages 1-3 in the SE's for over 70 kw phrases, first page for 20 or so.

The other two are a more modest 50-70 pages and 200-300 backlinks each.

Now I believe I am encountering duplicate content problems between the subdomain sites and the new stand-alone full domain sites. Also I want to phase out the old sites in favor of the new ones.

How can I put redirects on each of the optimized pages, sending site visitors to the new site?

Yes, I know that I can do it brute force by editing each page to have:
<head>
<meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://www.newdomain.com/equivalent-page.html">
</head>

But is there a more elegant solution? What are my options here? How can I do this and get the Search Engine spiders focused on my new sites without losing (or at least doing minimum damage to) the existing backlinks?

Any constructive suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

In my humble opinion, .htaccess redirect is the best one.

Possibly copy all the files to a new addon domain?
