Do you sell the newsletter or the freebie?

Here is a quick question. When you are trying to build your list do you....

a) 'sell' them the newsletter and mention that they get a freebie
b) 'sell' them the freebie and say they are automatically signed up for the newsletter.

What gets the best results for you?

ok, I am a bit confused.

You say you are trying to build a list, right?

What is your purpose for building the list? Are you planning on promoting other affiliate products to them?

If so, then, you would just give away something free in exchange for the email and them joining your newsletter.

If you are trying to sell a 'membership' of sorts or a 'paid subscription' to a newsletter, and that is how you are monetizing your site, then again that is different.

If that is your goal, then they would pay for the newsletter and they get a 'free' bonus for doing so.

I would go with the first option myself, but try em both.

It depends on which of the two you think offers them more value. For instance if my newsletter had my most dynamite information then I would 'sell' them on the value they would be getting from that if they signed up. If my freebie was something they needed or wanted then that is what I would be trying to make look attractive on my squeeze page. Get them to sign up for the thing you offer with the most value to them.

    I agree with Slade556.

Whatever product has the higher perceived value is what should be sold.

Keep in mind recurring income. If you would like to make money monthly with a subscription, then sell the newsletter.

If you sell your bonus and give the newsletter, it will be hard later to then ask for money for the newsletter.

Have to agree that free is always free. If your 'free' is enticing, there should be no reason why people won't want to sign up.

    Both.

When I write squeeze pages I give them the benefits of the freebie ("...immediate access to my exclusive report 'How I Shaved 12 Strokes Off My Game in Two Weeks' - master this one simple technique and you'll never again be the butt of everyone's bad-golfer jokes")

Then I tell them what else they'll get: "Plus, I'll follow-up with 10 weekly mini-lessons designed to teach you the finer points of putting - birdies and even eagles are possible when you learn to putt correctly."

I will 'sell' the freebie but they must know that they will automatically be added into the mailing list.
