I was approached by a close friend who is starting a non-profit organization. She is working on grants with the University Medical Center here in town and is branching out. Her organization is going to provide gift baskets to the parents of premature babies. Things that they actually need that they don't think about because having a premature baby is obviously unplanned. She is also doing preventive classes for expecting mothers with the med center as well.

She came to me because she is having their website built right now and wanted me to do the marketing for her organization. They need donations from both people and companies. I told her that I was up for the challenge and would be happy to help any way I could.

I guess my question is where would you start? They need donations to start doing the gift baskets and market the classes. There are a bunch of Doctors from two Medical Universities that want to partner with her organization and will help support her, but that won't be enough.

If anyone has any ideas on how to market a non-profit organization to get private donations, please respond or send a PM to me.

Also, the other question is how would you go about trying to contact businesses to see if they are interested in donating? The catch on both obviously is to be as inexpensive as possible.

A fellow warrior suggested asking as many people that have "lists" to send out a quick pre-written email to see if that gets any donations. It would at least show the people on their lists that they care about giving back and are not just after their money for personal gain.

Any thoughts or suggestions are very much appreciated!

Thank you,

Adam
