Question about WP glitch ~ not urgent, just annoying

Hi all ~

I have several word press blogs and find it (for the most part) user friendly for those of us in the nether world between neo-Luddite and recovering techno-phobe. That would be me .

Anyway, the website in question is meant, at some point, to be my main blog where I talk about my successes and failures with multiple internet marketing/income stream programs and whatnot. I have a personal blog powered by wp, and other product blogs, all wp, and all of them will let me upload images to put into posts ~ except this one.

Oh, it says it's uploading, crunching, and so on ~ but it lies. When it's done going through the motions everything is there except the image

I thought it was the theme so I changed it today, spent some time creating an image for the post I wrote (shoulda checked first, I know), and it still wouldn't upload an actual image ~ not in png, not in jpg, not even a flipping screenshot of the image.

The header image that came with the theme is just fine, and I like it; it's season appropriate, but I'm sure I can probably replace it, no worries. It's just that I can't put images into my posts! I haven't tried it yet, but it just occurs to me that I might not be able to put video in my posts here either, which would really suck when I get to that point.

Has anyone else had this experience? And if you have, can you tell me how to fix it? in small, layman friendly, non-technical words of one syllable or less?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Oh, this is the website, in case that matters: Renaissance Woman Ink

cheers ~
Rebecca

Only thing I can think of is to backup your content and reinstall wordpress... sounds like you've got a glitch. I've had it happen a couple of times where WP, for whatever reason, installed kinda funky.

That's alwasy the worst kind of advice in the case of a working blog. Sorry...

Any image related plugins? - If yes, deactivate them all.
Did you ever check the upload path (in Settings > Media)? - Is the path correct?

Is this blog hosted on the same server/account as the other, working ones?

I had a similar problem with a wordpress blog once, but it was only a problem when I tried to use the flash uploader. When I switched to the browser uploader, images were uploaded just fine. I have no idea why. Worth a try?

There are a few ways, that I can see in my test blog, that you can upload photo's. I am sure you have tried all these already, but just in case I will run through them.

1: From your WP Admin Panel, click Post. On the post screen, above the text block (Where you type your post), click "Add an Image" next to upload/insert. Follow the basic instructions there, and the photo should upload directly into your post.

2: From your WP Admin Panel, click Media. Click Add New. Click Browse, and choose your photo file. Click Upload. When posting, click the "Add An Image" button as described in #1, but this time choose the Media Library tab at the top. Follow your normal routine for loading the picture.

3: From the Posting screen (Where you type out your post), drag and drop the photo directly into the text area. (This works for me, but may only be due to some fancy Linux programs I have)

Worse case scenario, follow JasonMorgan's suggestion of re-installing your blog. Seems a bit drastic, but you may have to do it. Good luck with your blog!

      Thanks, Teravel ~

I'd done the first but not the second two, so I was hopeful . . . unfortunately, the other two didn't work either

But it was nice of you to take the time to give me some suggestions ~

I guess I'll just have to reload wp like Jason suggested . . . sigh . . .

      thanks ~

Have you tried deactivating all your plugins and then reactivating them one at a time to see if a plugin that you're using on that particular blog could be conflicting with another to cause the problem? Worth a shot, maybe.

Have you tried uploading an image just using the default theme? Maybe try changing the header just for troubleshooting purposes...you know, upload the new pic for the header etc...

My thought is that if you can't upload a pic, and I'd try several, then it's a problem with the installation as was suggested above. Sometimes things can get buggered up

Are you installing wp through cpanel?...like simplescripts?

Nice necklace in your avatar, by the way :0)
