Virtual real estate refers to sites, domains or other online "assets" - the usual purpose of which is to earn income for the owner.

It's just a term used for online space (websites, etc) you own and possibly has value associated with it. Most people will probably associate real estate as a major money maker..at least they did 10 years ago. So, they started coining the phrase virtual real estate to make their "property" be recognized as being more valuable.

Just like a piece of land, the more money you can make from virtual real estate is determined by the perception from the buyer and the return it could produce.

Not so much a business model, but a term.
