What to do with a .org version of a .com site.

I’m in network marketing primarily and have been for quite some time. I don’t make massive amounts of money, just enough to pay a couple of bills and buy a few things. I do have other sources of income as well. In network and to an extent affiliate marketing branding is very important as you want to stand out from everyone else who is selling the same or similar products, (and believe you me there is alot of competition out there both within and outside of companies.) Anyway, I just recently registered a .org version of a .com blog that I use to both sell products and recruit new affiliates, and I really haven’t been able to make a decision regarding whether I should simply forward the .org version over to the .com or to build a completely new blog/website on the .org. Which do you feel would be the better move?

If the main purpose is about branding, building another version of the brand with another extension will only confuse people. Just forward it to the one you prefer.

Agree with waken - if you're brand building, just forward it or don't do anything with it - just keep it registered to protect your brand.

If it's not a branding thing...

Sounds like the products may be yours since you say you recruit affiliates. If that's the case, do the same as above. If you're using the current site for affiliate marketing to promote other's products and the money is worthwhile, then start a duplicate of what you have that is already working - change it up appropriately (change articles / blog posts around enough they are unique) and drive traffic to it so you earn there too.

I've seen people build several domains selling exactly the same products (physical in the case I'm currently thinking of) using the exact same shopping cart... the idea was if they didn't get you with search result 1, they would with result 2, 3, 4, or 5. Like a spider web.

If anything I would think of the .org as brand-protection. Forwarding it probably won't generate much traffic to your brand but it will protect you from someone else closing in on your turf.

I own the .net, .org, .info, and .us version of many of my brands, it's a protective measure for me more than anything.

Definitely focus on one site, building a second will confuse people and limit split the time you used to spend on one site on two!

For you, having both blogs running differently will be advantageous
