What made YOU decide to get into Internet Marketing?

We all know that internet marketing is a effective way of making lots of money. And the lifestyle that comes with it is just great.

But what was is that triggered you and made you decide that this was something you wanted to learn more about and finally get into?

Personally, I got into it because financial freedom is very important to me. And internet marketing gives me that control in my life I need, so I don't have to apply to take leaves and work hours and hours on a project for a company making them tens of thousands while I only get mere percentage of the earnings.

We all have different beliefs and values, so what got YOU into online business and internet marketing?

Of course money is a big motivator, for as long as I can remember however, I've wanted to run a business of some kind, be my own boss etc.

FREEDOM too! I love travelling and the surf, when I am able to make a fulltime income, USA here we come

Honestly, the making money part is something I glommed onto after almost a decade making websites for a living and for fun. I'm screwing around on this stupid computer 8 hours a day, every day for as long as I can remember. I may as well do a couple of things that will make a buck here and there, right?

I've been always an internet person, and to think that I could make money while doing the things I love, that could somehow enables me to quit my day job someday? So pretty much all the reasons listed in the poll sans the dayjob/boss hate..

lol it's quite rare to meet someone who's absolutely in love with their job. Unless it's like musicians and people in entertainment, most of them are quite passionate about it. But I did meet this girl who told me she looked forward to work every day, and she was managing a medical clinic. This other guy I met told me he was absolutely in love with doing accounting and being and accountant. But I guess 99% of the people still hate their jobs.

I got into internet marketing because I was always on my computer and I was good at the technical side of internet marketing. It made it easier for me to understand the technical issues involved but it took me a while to learn the actual business part of it.

I also love having the financial freedom and make my own decisions and not having someone else boss me around.

I think it's interesting to see that as much as 50% have voted like me up until now.

We don't necessarily need to become rich or live the totally free internet life style, we just feel that we want more control of our financial future.

I've been a self-employed IT consultant / programmer / data equipment reseller to small businesses for about 25 years now, and I like what I do.

But, I'd like to be more in control, both economically and when it comes to working hours.

      That's what I long for.

P.S. I also think it's somehow inspiring in itself to see what's possible to achieve for ordinary people in IM.

I think it's the combination of freedom and money. But there's also the allure of getting in on something in the early stages of development and growing with it.

I don't mind working hard, really hard. But when I do, I want it to be building MY business, not someone else's.

I got into IM because I've been messing around online now for years and I got sick of my day job.

I find it enthralling that I can be out and about, asleep and come back and I've made money! Yippppe!!

Plus, I also want to control my financial future and that means I want to be rich enough for me!

It was 1999 and I had been in the US Air Force for a little over a decade
and just finished up my B.S.

I had to make a decision to stay in and apply for a commission or jump
out and try this 'dot com' thing that was still doing quite well at the time.

The ultimate decision was based on that I wanted to get paid based on
results and my abilities and wanted more freedom to live where I wanted, etc...

It's been a fun ride since then.

        .
Think you summed it up nicely there Oscar... I come from a blue-chip background and love the freedom that running my own business brings.

Many of those in so called 'safe' professions (think banking) are finding out that their loyalty is only reciprocated during the good times...

        Cheers, Mark

IM is an easy way to make money and it's passive! I can set something up like a website or something and it keeps paying me without even touching the website!

I found I had an intense passion for staying on the computer for long hours, so I figured it would be smart to make my business life on the CPU because business building take passion and determination. Knowing these things I just felt it would be a good decision to focus my energies in this area. Also I like how cheap it is to do business online! There aren't hardly any businesses that I know of offline that could compare to the costs of doing business online. Plus I love the fact that you can automate and outsource almost everything on the internet without having to pay salaries or health benefits. In addition to this you never have to worry about law suits or leases or major government regulations. The list goes on and on.

    I have a few reasons.

FIRST, I can do it from just about anywhere in the world which lends itself to freedom.

SECOND, I love teaching people and learning new things. I get to do a lot of both while doing business on the internet.

THIRD, you can make big margins which means a healthy income potential.

FOURTH, you can get started quickly and with little capital.

Personally I try to have more reasons than just money to do something. When I've done something for only money alone, somewhere along the line it doesn't work out as well.

Freedom to be able to do what I want to do, how I want to do it.

And like everyone, I make mistakes as well. We're not perfect, but I feel so much better about making a mistake for MY business, rather than someone elses. Why? Because I only have myself to blame when that happens, instead of 100 people at a big corporation pointing the finger at me, dealing with all of the extra stress and baggage, having to worry about a decision you made that can affect tons of people, isn't the greatest feeling in the world.

Also, the fact that the harder I work, the more potential I have to earn more money. If I work at a job that pays an hourly rate, I could work for years before they give me more money, based on my performance. With my business, I can invest a little more time and effort in just one day, and see the results the next.

Point blank - It's awesome to be able to do want you want and do it on YOUR time

You left out one poll option.

I lost my job. Kind of forced me to look for something else to do.

Forced into an early retirement and always wanted to own a business. Lower start up fees than a brick & mortar biz, more flexibility, and if profitable, more all around freedom.

Actually, I've felt it was the right time to jump into this world. Mainly because I've been preparing myself creating excellent products for other great marketers in the past.

I'm so glad they are making such high profits from my products!
So now, I feel inspired to take action in order to receive profit directly.

I also like the idea of creating win-win affiliate programs.

I love to win and help others to also win. It is fun.

You can't really make any money doing this, can you?

Some day I hope I have to decide on the full time/quit the day job thingy, but for now I am happy with the extra money it brings in each month.

My two cents worth here. I was losing more money in the Forex Market (Foreign Exchang Market) then I was making. So here I am trying to learn how to do this, after all I spent 6 months trying to make money, now maybe it will change, sure hope so, got a lot of lost money I need to make up for...

Yes, I definitely want a lifestyle with lots of spare time. I guess once you start to have a family, your priorities change.

Also, I´m lazy. I picture a time in the future when all my websites will be working for me rather than me working them. And at that time, all I´m going to do is chill, travel, play with the kid, and maybe even give my poor neglected husband some attention. :-)
