Keyword Research. Is what threw me off before something I should worry about now?

Ok so Im reading this eBook and getting re-aquainted with affiliate marketing, and I now remember what kind of intimidated me before. Keyword research. It seemed like no matter what I thought of for my keywords they were always highly competitive. I guess my question is, can one still do well in a niche with highly competitive keywords? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Can you do well in a niche with highly competitive keywords?

Sure, but if you're going the SEO route be prepared to put in a
considerable amount of work and time.

Personally I like to go for the "low hanging fruit". There are a TON
of niches and keywords that are not saturated by other internet
marketers - it just takes a bit more digging to find them. But its
worth it. When you find a niche like this its like hitting the jackpot.

    Here's a tip:

Research SPECIFIC product name keywords. Don't go after super popular
product names since those will probably be inundated by other marketers.

Even if a product name only gets a couple hundred searches per month
its still worthwhile to go for it. Why? Because anyone searching for a
specific product name is in a BUYING MOOD! They know what they want
and are very likely to buy instead of just looking for free info.

    To your success,
    Matt

You absolutely can and I've done it many times with an exact-match domain. Some of the sites I launched out-ranked much longer-established .com sites. It's all about SEO + Domain, this bonus cannot be understated.

    Hi...

When choosing a potential keyword phrase to target, be sure to check out the Page 1 competition for it. The amount of competition for those first ten listings that show up on Google when you enter in the keyword phrase is critical (since they get about 99% of the possible clicks).

You can have keyword phrase with seemingly fierce competition (ie. greater than 200,000 results), but if the Page 1 competition is weak, you still have a chance for ranking high for it.

On the flip side, you can have a keyword phrase that looks like a piece of case to rank for (ie. less than 10,000 results) and have competition so strong on Page 1 that it is virtually impossible to rank anywhere near the top ten.

So be sure to check out the Page 1 competition for any keyword phrase you plan to target BEFORE you start writing content, articles, registering domain names, etc.

    Much Success,

    KateD
