I'm wondering on the type of website design produces better results. Currently I have a site up (my sig) that has a lot of text and in addition there is a blog on the site. Needless to say all that text gives ample opportunity to pack it with keywords. On the other hand, after looking around at others sites I see a lot of sites that really don't have much text at all. Lots of banner ads and graphics or in some cases just headline text in big red and blue and green letters on a plan white page. Some of these people are having good success with these kind of pages or at least it appears they are.

So what is the better approach.

I have maybe 5 or 6 sites on my server and at present I am only actively working on one of them. It's the oldest site (8 years old) but only in the last month have I started to actively work on it. The other sites I'm thinking I will eventually bring them into the fold and use them to promote
offers once I get the current one showing traffic.

    My suggestions are:

-more graphics to break up all that text
    -different domain name adlinda?
try and choose a domain related to your site, but more importantly your keywords

Yeah well like I said the domain is about 8 years old. We were going to put up a site for ad specialty items way back when. Any way I had the site and decided to use it for this. I have a new domain web-money.us but it's brand new and as of yet I don't have anything on it. In the mean time I'm just working on building traffic to the adlinda site (it's the one I started with when I first started working on this). I will probably move everything when I get the chance. One step at a time.

Also as you can see the default page is just text and of course the advertisements down the side and then there is the blog that you have to navigate to. Should I be using the blog URL in links or the default page.

And of course there is my original question. Do these sites that just have headline text down the middle of the page work well. God knows they would be a lot less work to put up and faster to build. But should I spend the time to build better looking sites.

Actually this question has a lot to do with the new domain web-money.us. I have been thinking of how to set this site up and of course the easy thing is to just throw up a blog (website in a box) or actually build something else. Of course the blog approach has a lot of built in benefits such as lots of content i.e. text and keywords. And I can still put up the really cheesy looking headline text in bright colors for the default page or other pages.

In my experience you should never use your blog as your only means of selling/promoting a product.(unless you have a massive following) You should use your blog to send traffic to you main sales page and to build credibility. Also always remember that if you are not gathering prospects e-mail addresses you are missing out on A LOT of potential sales.

      best of luck,

I would like to retract this statement

There are many many people who make good money from their blog.

What I meant was, say your looking to buy a camera. Would you be more likely to buy from,

        www.BestCameraDeals.blogspot.com

        or

        www.BestCameraDeals.com

Amount of text doesn't necessarily correspond to how good the web design is - it's all about how appealing it is to the reader.
People like a web layout that is easy to follow (important information at the top, important links in a sidebar or top bar which are easy to find).
People also like a professional looking site - no flashing text or red-on-green.

A simple, professional (two-ish colors) background, with a good balance of text and graphics should do the trick!
What's important is that your content stands out, is well organized (bullet points or paragraphs work well), and that your graphics are appealing without being mundane or amateur-looking.

I would use Wordpress and find yourself some nice looking themes with header images. Use some SEO plugins with this as well. Choose wisely when placing ads. Try not to make it look cluttered.
