Can Viruses Slow your Broadband connection?

Writing some articles in the spyware niche.

1-
Are there particular types of viruses/trojans/spyware which cause your broadband connection to be slow? and affect the USB connection to your modem?

2-
If for a USB modem (one line connects to USB, and one connects to the Phoneline VIA a filter)
- the USB Acts as the Powersupply to the modem correct?

Is it wise NOT to overload the computer with USB devices (printers, webcams etc), as the USB modem gets less share of the power/ as the power is spread,
and can this Affect the functionability of the modem ? (as it has to share power?)

    as to your first question, yes, there are..i don't recall any names, yet i can say that spyware is the most dangerous for a broadband connection; trojans however do not affect it

    and for your second question: yes, it is advisable not to overload it for the exact reason that you stated yourself

        it depends on the computer. if you have at least dual core and a good motherboard, then you can put up to 12 usb devices; but if your computer's performance is not that good, then you should stop at 8. it also matters what kind of usb are you using ( whether we're talking about usb storage devices, printers, webcam etc); some are taking more power (amps), some are taking less...
