My site just dissappeared!

after several months of backlink building and article marketing to build links, I had finally worked my way up to #11 on Google search results for a pretty competitive keyword.

There are 223 million search results and for the keyword in quotes there are 536,000 keyword laden pages.

Obviously - I took on a challenge.

I submitted another article yesterday and today... this afternoon to be exact...

The Site is GONE.

nowhere in the first 20 pages of Google.

The site is 3 years old, has a PR of 2 and all I did was another article submission.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Google is weird, have you changed anything to the site, if you have change it back. There could be many reasons why your site is gone...

    sorry

Don't panic. My site disappeared from google's index entirely for a day and a half once, but it came back. After that it took about a week for traffic to get back to normal.

    Do a google search for...

    site:websitename.com

Notice there's no space between the colon and the site name.

If nothing is found, then you're out of the index like I was, and you'll probably come back soon.

    even more...

I can type the URL itself into the Google search bar and it doesn't come up.

A lot of my sub pages come up but not the main url.

tried the "site:url" thing and same thing - the main url is not showing up

Have I been banned or sandboxed or whatever it's called?

It's possible that you've been sandboxed - or it could just be Google throwing a fit. Sometimes my sites randomly disappear for a day or two and then are right back where they were.

Mind PM'ing me the domain name so I can check it out?

doubtful that its got anything to do with an article you submitted, more likely something a little more serious.

What does it show in webmaster tools?

Do you have a canonical tag on the site? I would be concerned if my main URL disappeared but not interior pages.

      Winebuddy,

Someone else asked the same question the other day and I replied...you can see my answer following the link below. But I dont think you have to worry. It's been going on. Your site will come back...worst case...3 weeks. This happens to me at least once a year and my site is always on the first page.

It's a Google thing...best way to describe it.

Very odd that only the index page isn't showing up, I assume you never made any changes?

Pages do however disappear and reappear, very doubtful Google will automatically "sandbox" a single page.

Very rarely when I post articles backlinking to my site, the site disappears for a couple days. (very rarely, thankfully) - sorry I couldn't have been more help than the link I sent ya.

Maybe Google is getting ready to do a PR update, (jeez it's been so long I barely remember what those are) and are getting ready for some movement on your site.

Either way I'm wishing you luck!

I have similar experience as well. Cannot understanding how Google work. Who know by the way

I have a site that keep jumping around, sometimes it rank high, sometimes can't even find in the first 10 pages (it is still in the index). This has been happening for months. I just keep my fingers cross and it will finally settle down.

Earlier it was a common thing with google to list your site in top listings and then just throw it back all together.

The new trend is that your site can be seen on 1st page of g and then dissapear alltogether only to be found back on page 1 few days (or a week) later.

Care to share your domain and keyword?

    Regards,

Not Google dance. Sandboxed for sure. I made some design changes to an old site and as soon as I made them the site disappeared from Google.

It kept coming back but only for around 24 hours before it vanished again for weeks. This went on for some time.

As I said a few posts ago, his site is already back in its rightful spot on Google - and therefore not sandboxed.

That's good, but it will disappear again. This process (disappearing/reappearing) continues for a while you know.

If anything one can say it's too early to tell, and he's already back to his position as I stated he probably would be in a day. Don't be so certain just because it happened to you once. I've looked after thousands of domains and sites for a dozen years, there's more than one possibility/answer here and it takes more than one instance to be as certain and final as you're trying to be.

              That's quite interesting @ Rob141

Depending on what sort of job you actually did for Google, i believe that there are some sensitive info you're not allowed to release in public as part of your non-disclosure agreement with them....

I'm sort of curious about the info you posted here (re: Google dance/Sanbox), what was the actual job you were doing for the big "G?"

I'm one of the guys that believes that "the sandbox" doesn't exist, and even if it did, you're really not showing the supposed symptoms of being in it.

Your domain is obviously not deindexed either.

Google just does this kind of thing, and it seems to happen more frequently now than it did in the past. Plus, I think that there have been some noticeable algo updates recently because I have watched most of my sites start moving around abnormally.

I wouldn't concern yourself too much. Just keep doing what you were doing. Keep adding content to your site, keep building backlinks, keep submitting articles, keep promoting and gaining followers/subscribers/customers/etc., but most of all be patient!

I could be back in a couple days and it could take a month+, only time will tell for sure.

You have found the Google Dance! It is a good thing--- Some people do not like the name Google dance but, it is a good since you will now come back higher up then number 11 if your site has a lot of unique content.

It's good to know if it was indeed a Google dance, as this has been dramatically reduced since 2003.

It will usually coincide to the time that Google is actually doing some update with their ranking database. To check if there there is indeed any activity, just go to:

It has happened to me like 4 times now.. The main page dissapears but the rest stays. For one site it took about a month for it to get reindexed. I haven't figured out exactly why it happens. I would love to know though.

I've had this happen to one of my Google favored sites before. I understand how upset you are, because it sucks not knowing why a site disappears like that.

I figured that Google was testing other sites in my niche to see if they were more relevant than mine. I think they measure click through rate from search engine to website link.

Anyway, I was determined to get my beloved site back where it belonged - at the top.

I added new content and keywords to the site, and wrote a bunch of articles to promote it. I already knew that people like the site from looking at my stats, so I felt it had a good chance of making a comeback.

After a month or so, that's what happened.

It regained it's rightful spot on the first page for many keywords, and is actually a solid authority site now in that niche.

You just gotta hang in there and keep working with that site.

When you are talking about the site disappearing, do you mean the main domain URL or all of the individual pages?

I just recently had all of the pages on one of my sites (that is still indexed) disappear from the rankings. I have had individual pages drop before and reappear but never all the pages from the same site.
