Why is google indexing my calendar rather than my blog post

I really don't get it I've been checking google to see what pages from my wordpress blog have been indexed and all of them so far appear to be indexed (around 110 blogposts) but instead of having a few lines of content from the blogpost Google is showing calendar information

E.g.
October 2010 MTWTFSS <<October 1,2,3,4,5,etc

The funny thing is there is five of the pages showing as indexed in google where everything is fine and the title and a few lines of content from the blogpost is showing perfectly the way it should be...

Please if anyone knows how I can solve this problem so my blogposts can be indexing and showing up the right way I would be very grateful...

Just a guess: do you have a LEFT sidebar in your layout that has the Wp calendar on the top as the first item in it?

Istvan yes I do, the wordpress calendar has been the first widget on the left sidebar for the last few weeks only recently I have had it in second place because I put the search widget above it. Why? How does this affect how google indexes my blog posts?

Have you installed any of the WP SEO plugins? If not, I recommend you do so immediately. WordPress › All in One SEO Pack « WordPress Plugins

If you already have it installed, then I think you might need to configure it.

Bravo, I already have the all in one SEO plugin installed, I'll check out the settings to see if there's any options that are affecting googles reading of my blog posts. I'm just wondering if this is something common amongst wordpress users or if it's got something to do with the theme I'm using.

OK, if there is no plugin to handle what your meta tags in the header should be; i.e. there is no description meta tag in the head section... then every search engine will take the very first lines of content of the page to display as "description" in serach engine results.

Now, most WP theme designers don't know how to make a content-first type of theme when they have left sidebar, too. (Now, you and everyone else, can see: there is a reason why in the default WP themes the sidebar is on the right...)

If you look at the source code of a left-sidebar theme, you will see that whatever is in your left sidebar - in the code it comes first, i.e. on the top of your html, before the real content = posts.

    Your options:
    - re-code the theme to have content first (not easy, if you are not good at CSS/XHTML)
    - get a theme with only right sidebars
    - install a plugin, as suggested above, to create description for each post/Page
