    Hi Kym,

I've never sold a site before but I think if you want to sell your
site, you probably might want to check out site flipping material
to give you a better idea on how to get better dollars for your site.

It's just one of the ways to sell a site.

Thanks Asher - I was just checking out sitepoint market place and the domain mmogames had a starting bid of $12000!!!!!!!!!!! which just got me thinking that the name might well be worth more than the whole site!
    Kym

    anyone have anything to add?

Well Kym, just to let you know, that site would probably never sell.
People at SitePoint aren't idiots... you can place a bid at whatever
price you want but it'll never sell.

I recommend learning about how to sell sites first rather than
    set yourself up for disappointment.

It's your choice though. All the best for your site.

      Kym,

You can get a domain appraisal from godaddy for free. I'm not sure how accurate it is but it might give you a ballpark to start in.

dnscoop.com says 490 USD. Needs probably more monetizing.

First, the name itself is nice. I agree with the other posts above. Certainly, you should (at a minimum) make the domain name valuable by putting a site in front of it with a specific audience that has high value. There are a ton of inexpensive primers on how to build up a site/domain name for profit. Invest the time to do this first, even if for only a few months.

    Ok well thanks people!

so what would it be worth as a full site with attached blog as it is?

Try this to get an idea...although I find that this often runs too high.

Nameboy Ultimate Domain Name Generator, search, creation, domain name lookup and domain registration

Just adding a blog won't add much value. If you want to go that route you'll want to do more with it. My second sig. shows you how to increase the value
tremendously but I actually do NOT think that product is ideal for your situation.

Estibot.com values the names at $1,800, due to the traffic it gets.

Similar domains sell between $500-2000. Check namebio.com out to see past sales with similar keywords. I'd estimate it's worth about $1,000 as it is right now, but with the economy domains haven't been selling for as high. I would go over to namepros.com as they will be able to give you an accurate value for free.

I wouldn't rely to heavily on estibot or DNscoop valuations. I registered a domain last week and ran it through dnscoop and estibot.

    Dnscoop valued it at $1000
    Estibot Valued it at $6600

Doesn't seem right to me LOL

      Wow!

this is great info guys - thanks!

now I have some places to do homework!

would you say its easier to just sell the name rather than worry about the transfer of the whole site etc? (not good with techie stuff)

the site currently has about 40,000 per month visitors in my webepanel stats and makes about 300-350 per month site PR3 blog PR2 (last look anyway)

not sure what to do with it - but have another project to focus on!

      any advice?
      thanks everyone - Kym

Well - took the advice and ran through nameboy!
    here are the results............

The following is a NameBoy.com domain name appraisal. We use a number of metrics to determine the value of your name.
    Appraised November 18, 2008, 4:03 pm

    Initial Appraisal Criteria
    -------------------------------

    - domain: wemakemoneyonline
    - tld: com
    - length: 17
    - wemakemoneyonline contains no hyphens
    - wemakemoneyonline contains no digits

Adjusted for word count of 4:

Total internet occurrence value : 2305.5
Total internet market value : 20.1
Nameboy search frequency value : 1.65
    Proper Name Value : 3

    Appraisal Analysis and Explanation
    -----------------------------------

    Initial Valuation Criteria

NameBoy believes the TLD (top level domain) of a domain name is very important. The TLD determines the memorability of the domain, and better TLDs convey a more professional and experienced business. COM, NET, and ORG are currently the most credible and well known TLDs. The familiarity and credibility of newer TLDs will likely increase with time. A TLD of .COM is very valuable.

The number of characters in a domain affects the value of that domain. Shorter domain names are more valuable. The fewer characters a name contains, the easier it is to type and remember. Your name is rather long (more than fifteen characters long). This may detract from the value of the name.

Hyphens generally detract from the value of a domain. Your name contains no hyphens, which increases the value of your domain.

Digits in a domain name, as in horses4sale.com, decrease the value of a domain. Your name contains no digits, which increases the value of your domain.

    Market Based Appraisal Criteria

The number of words in a domain affects the value of that domain. Names with fewer words are considered to be more memorable, and therefore more valuable. Your name contains more than three English words, which detracts from the value of your domain.

NameBoy uses major search engines to determine how much content exists on the Internet with your keywords. The Internet frequency of these words is a good way of determining the current buyers market for individual terms and the level of industry-specific activity. This element of your appraisal score is very time sensitive, the popularity of a given term may fluctuate often as the market changes and new fields grow. Your domain contains keywords that produce a very large number of search results. This increases the value of your domain.

NameBoy uses an index of the search value of your keywords to determine the value of your domain in a sellers and advertising market. Your domain contains keywords that have some search value. This adds to the value of your domain.

The NameBoy.com search frequency allows us to rate the words we find in your domain against our own proprietary list of searches. This is a very good indication of whats hot in the industry right now. Keywords in your domain name are occasionally searched for on NameBoy.com, which adds to the value of your domain name.

Your name contains one or more proper names. Nameboy uses internet market value and frequency tables to estimate demand for a particular proper name and adjusts your appraisal accordingly.

    Appraised Dollar Value

As you can see, a number of metrics go into this appraisal. We think NameBoy appraisals are the best, most objective, and most intelligible domain name appraisals available. Our valuations are more realistic than others, and, on occasion our valuations are sometimes as low as zero dollars. Your domain has a very high appraisal value. Congratulations! Remember that this is only an approximate dollar value, and there is no guarantee that you will be able to sell or buy the domain for this amount.

    Appraisal Value of wemakemoneyonline.com
    - Dollar Value is $5150USD

Thank you very much for choosing NameBoy for your appraisal. Visit nameboy.com to use all of our other services.
