Hi I was wondering if anyone could recommend accountants in the UK that understand Internet Marketing.

Also I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to the following

if i own a limited company and i am outsourcing work on sites such as elance.com or using other such companies , how would i declare this?

Would have to be a part of the PAYE sub contractor scheme.

Many Thanks

Gosh... good luck finding one of those!

I remember trying to explain it all to my accountant and watching him sitting there with a stupid look on his face and steam coming out his ears. I think I broke his brain.

As for your question, I don't believe they would be but I notice you're in the U.K. so I don't really know. However, if HM Revenue & Customs is anything like the taxman here, you can at least be sure it will be as unnecessarily complicated and convoluted as it possibly can be.

In all honesty - your best bet is to visit your local Tax Office and explain the situation there regarding your Internet business. They are not the two-headed monsters that some people portray (I know one who is almost that, mind you!!)

Generally speaking a contractor used for outsourcing is not an employee, so they are responsible for paying their own income taxes, agreed upon expenses, etc.

Again this Forum is probably not the place for legal advice like this - especially if you are a limited Company. Your Company Accountant should be of more use to you.

    Hope that might help a little . . .

    Hi Shevd,

Although u need the final advice from your accountant i would advise that outsourcing work on elance will not come under PAYE sub contractor scheme.

The majority of your outsource work will be to people from US (most likely) and even if not your company is not responsible for declaring their taxes.

    Hi Shevd,

Have you tried calling HMRC? I phoned them because I wanted to know when to charge VAT on e-goods sold to overseas customers, and the young fella on the other end was pretty efficient at finding the right document and giving me an answer.

HMRC's numbers are here: HM Revenue & Customs : Contact Us

Guess what?? I'm a chartered accountant based in the UK, who is also involved in IM!!! You see, we do exist!!!

Outsourcing work does not come under PAYE.

However, if you were outsourcing work to a particular person who only worked on your IM projects full time (eg not available to work for anyone else), that would be a problem for you, as Mr Tax Man would try and argue that he was in fact an emplyee of your company really, and he would then try and get you to pay National Insurance contributions on behalf of the person!

But generally speaking, if you only use a person from elance every now and again and that person also works on projects for other people then you will be fine and have no problems. Get an invoice from them as well.

Feel free to ask more questions if required.
