What are the best things to be pushing on Amazon right now? Electronics and toys?

Toys are doing great for me, also electronic gadgets like kindles and accessories for it.

Make sure you meet the criteria:

    Hello from Amazon Services.

As we announced earlier this year, the Holiday Selling Guidelines for the Toys & Games store go into effect on November 15th, 2010. Only sellers meeting the guidelines may sell products in Toys & Games through the holiday season.

    - Seller's first sale on Amazon.com must be prior to 09/20/2010 (sale does not need to be Toy-specific)
    - Seller must have processed and shipped at least 25 orders (do not need to be Toy-specific) during the 60 consecutive days preceding 11/1/2010
    - No greater than 1% short term defect rate as of 11/1/2010
    - No greater than 2.5% pre-fulfillment cancel rate for the trailing 30-days preceding 11/1/2010: Actual pre-fulfillment cancel rate
    - No greater than 5% late shipment rate for the trailing 30-days preceding 11/1/2010: Actual late shipment rate

Aren't those guidelines for people selling their own (secondhand) toys via Amazon? I don't think those are for affiliates.

That's what I thought the guidelines were for . I got a couple emails from Amazon.

I believe Leslie is correct. Those rules only apply to those selling their own stuff.

Those who are Amazon affiliates, even if they become one today, can sell anything already available at Amazon. These products already meet Amazon's criteria for being listed on their site.

As for what the hot Christmas toys 2010 are, there are several. From Silly Bandz to the Kindle, this holiday season is poised to be a good one.

And don't forget, while a lot of people talk about Black Friday, that applies to brick and mortar businesses. The big day for us as online sellers is Cyber Monday, which is a few days later.

    All the best,
    Michael

I would definitely be looking at toys - the good news is that several toy retailers have released "hot lists" of what they think are going to be the biggest sellers. Looking at these is a great way to cut down on research when coming up with content ideas.

I would also look at gadgets. There are always some big releases you could focus on e.g. Kinect and Sony Move this year (motion controllers for video games) and then the 3D TV movement etc (though we have yet to see how many people take this up. Just think in terms of what the most desired gifts will be. eBook readers and cell phones are always up there too.

I don't think it's too late. I'm still creating small amazon sites every day in small niches. Easy to rank, maybe less sales but I try to go for higher commissions. Seems to work for me.

I don't think it applies to affiliates either. I've been selling a few toys I saw were getting a lot of searches over the last 2 months and always keep an ear to the ground with it during the year.

I only really target Amazon stuff at Christmas and they haven't mentioned anything to me. Unless this is a rule across the pond I'm certain its not over here. I'm targetting UK stuff this year simply because I've friends with kids and have a had some good tips. I've also a few sites that did well last year that have sprung to life again in the last few weeks.

I'm not saying you're wrong Mike I just don't fit their criteria and haven't had any problems. I'm not so up to speed on the States this year. Mind you if I was Amazon I'd rather every man, woman, child and dog we're selling my stuff for me.

I think the OP got it right - toys and electronics.

The Kindle was a big seller last year. It's also been Amazon's number one product for a long time now - since before Christmas 2009 if I'm not mistaken.

Got to be worth a punt!

The Kindle is just one of the hot products included in our holiday offer this year. That's because Amazon just recently released a new version of the Kindle that is better than ever, and also quite affordable.

In other words, all signs point to it being one of the hottest gifts this year, which is why it was included.

It's still not too late to set something up. The sooner, the better, but you actually have a few weeks to capitalize on the holiday market.

      All the best,
      Michael
