Hi, we are looking to use relevant forums to market our services (we do dvd rental and movie streaming). But, I am not really sure HOW to do this! How do you mention your products on forums without getting banned for advertising or spamming.

Yes - this is a total newb question!

Our services are in Spain, so we are looking at spanish (the country, not the language) targeting... if that makes any difference to my question.

Any tips would be appreciated!

Thanks

I am new but see a lot of signatures - a few of the right words and a link is all you need

Forum marketing can work very well, but there is a right way and a VERY WRONG way to go about it...

You should take some time to contribute helpful posts to the forum(s). You will build a good reputation and people will start to view you as a legit expert in your given field.

Once you've built a reputation through helpful contribution, create a forum signature that links to the products/services you're offering. Most forums will NOT allow direct linking to an affiliate sales page - you'll probably have to link to your own website or a helpful blog.

By building a strong reputation people are much more likely to seriously consider any product/service recommendations you make.

Note: Keep in mind that not all forums will allow this - be sure to carefully review the TOS.

      To your success,
      Matt

Provide good content and put your site in your sig file.

Forum people are your friends, so treat them as such. . .

Would you hard sell a friend on buying a product? Probably not. . .

If you are able to help people and build trust then they will easily turn into visitors to your links in the sig files.

Also, most forums will have a paid advertising section or classifieds so you can save your advertising for that section and keep all your forum posts on the subject.

    Hope this helps

Start using forums as a way to get help for yourself and contribute to the grand conversions going on. If you are TRYING to sneak in you marketing, you will not get far and may even getting banned.

The best way is to use the forums as they are meant to be used which is for help and conversations.

Most forums do have a section that allows to say 'what you do', and you can put your link there most the time.

I guess you could also pay as well.

    It can be a pain.

I went to a Joomla forum today where there was a thread entitled "AutoResponse Plus". The OP was asking how to integrate ARP with Joomla.

It's his lucky day, I thought, because he can get the answer from the horse's mouth - mine!

So I penned a short reply saying that a free extension was available for download and posted the link.

    The result?

Deleted post and warning against me for self-promotion.

It seems they must have been looking for a response from someone who knew less about it than me or with no solution to offer the OP.

Hey, I'm beginning to sound like a whingy ranter

    Outta here.

You've gotten some good, albeit very general advice. Be an active participant. Follow the rules (both posted and unspoken). Etc.

The fact you do business in Spain really doesn't make much difference, other than targeting forums that draw visitors from your country. You'd know any cultural differences better than we would, though.

    Here's some more specific suggestions...

    > Rather than looking for forums about DVD rentals and streaming, think about the next ring out. You have the hardware, software and the content itself.

    > You could contribute value by giving advice on DVD players, links to reviews, tips on accessories, etc. You could also contribute reviews of movies (especially ones available through your service ).

    > Before you go charging in, lurk for awhile and get the flavor of the forum. Do other people link to products and services? How? Do others use signature files? How aggressive are they?

    > You could also score some points by contacting the forum owner or moderator and laying out your general plan. Then ask if that will fly in their forum. If not, how can you tweak it so it is acceptable?

The last one is just common courtesy, like asking if you can smoke in someone's house before lighting up...

Look around you. At the Warrior Forum, you will find forum marketing at its finest. Often times it is so camouflaged that readers do not even realize the ulterior motives of posters. Simply provide good content for the forum readers and you will create a win-win situation for everybody - you, the readers, and the forum owners.

I think your forum signature is the only way to promote your site or services on forums. but of course, you cannot just get people to click on your sig. you also have to establish yourself as a credible person that will make people curious about you or your site. when you're able to achieve that level (which is simple as long as you provide helpful posts and stay active on forum), then, you'll get people to check your page.

I never mention my products in my post. I figure that if people are interested they will feel comfortable enough to click on my signature links or discuss with me further about what I do etc. I am not too worried. I like to participate in the forums and will stick around if I can. I just try to be myself and not worry about trying to ingratiate myself with others.

marketing via forum is an effective way but always be alarm with different rules and regulations they have so you will not be crossed out and looks like a spam or something bad. Aside from forum, you can make a video uploading, sending emails and commenting to different blogs but be careful doing it.
