How would you get a mentor?

Hi Warriors,

I've had a thought running through my mind for last few days, and thought I better take some action on it.

My question is "How would you find & get a good mentor?"

Im currently going through the Micro Continuity 2.0 system and really loving it. The only thing that annoys me is I have to wait 2 weeks for a new section to be released, but oh well. I've done my best to model what he has done with his sites in the interim.

I love the whole idea of finding a niche, finding what they want, and giving them what they want. I guess a micro continuity site is just one method of doing. Could easily do the same thing with affiliate offers etc...

The problem I am mainly having is driving traffic to the squeeze page & blog I have set up. I am doing some forum posting, blog commenting, and trying adwords (this one is kinda scary for me). I am getting a few people sign up on my list, but no sales, but I though it would be great to have a mentor who has already done it before helping me out. I guess I tend to second guess myself, get fearful, or think something isnt working and stop doing it.

Recently I lost a whole bunch or weight. I lost half on my own, and half using a personal traininer. Looking back on that, the half I lost with the personal trainer was at least 10x easier cause I had someone helping me out by answering my questions, keeping me focused and on track, and just assuring me that what i was doing is right.

How would you find a personal trainer of the IM world??? lol...

Love to hear your ideas.

Thanks!!

    Hey Grim,

Great question, and I wish there was an easy answer to that.
It looks like you want to address 2 issues, one is finding a mentor to help you along the way, and 2 is finding traffic and making sales to pay for the mentor... lol

They're both equally important I would say, but it looks like getting a mentor is what you're after. There is probably no easy answer, so I'll just provide you with some tips.

    1. Define your strategy before finding a mentor. If you're looking for paid traffic, you're going to find a different set of potential mentor than if you're doing SEO.

    2. Let's say you're more interested in paid traffic, then run a search here or other forums dedicated to search traffic. If it's SEO, I can help, but the same applies. Go to the SEO forums and find the people in this particular niche.

    3. I was going through a JV training today, and I'm sure this applies to finding mentors too. Instead of going around asking people what they can do for you, try pointing out what you can bring to the table, and what's in it for them. (It could be money, potential JV deals, help with some of their work, testimonials for their next product, etc)

    I hope this helps.

      Hi Alberto,

Thankyou for the great tips. I especially liked Number 1 about defining the strategy before picking the mentor, and then picking a mentor for that particular area. ie. PPC, or seo etc...

Regarding tip 3 about whats in it for them. While this will vary from person to person, but what do mentors generally want, or what generally motivates them??

One last question :-), say I find someone in the forum that I think will be good, should I send them a PM?? Or is there a better way.

While this may be different from person to person, I would say as most business owners, money would probably be one of the main motivators. By that I mean it's a service that they already provide for a fee (i.e. group coaching, one-on-one consultations, etc).

One recommendation that I can provide is buy their low-end material first, so that you're familiar with their teaching-style and their philosophy.

For example, one of my hobbies is trading forex, so I bought an ebook from someone that I wanted to try out. Then I bought a video course and a membership to daily videos, and now I do one-on-one consultations. This has skyrocketed my results, and the consultations are more productive since I already know all the ins and outs of his system.

I hope this makes sense, and keep us posted.

Browse the forum and find one that is reasonably priced and that is willing to work with you.

Until then keep learning, and working on your online business if you have started one already.

Hang in there it will get better remember next year is a new year. And good luck!

I found my first online mentor around ten years ago. I built a relationship with him by replying to his newsletters and giving him feedback. He had his phone number at the bottom of every e-mail he sent as well as on his website. After a few months of exchanging e-mails I decided to give him a call.

After some small talk we talked a little shop and then I asked him, sincerely, if there was anything I could help him with, preferably something that would allow me to learn something useful in IM. He took me under his wing after he saw my work on a couple of completed projects for him. The main thing he taught me was building relationships across the board and list building.

This would have never happened if I did not take the initiative.
