copy is cool insider lingo for writing something. The written word is referred to as copy.

A sales letter is copy designed to sell/make you want to buy. We could get into a really lengthy discussion about what is this and what is that but that is more or less it.

I'm the worst salesman on the planet and don't really bother with copy, hype or award winning sales letters, I'm more of a here it is, buy it if you want, or not... I don't really care.

Copy - This is basic copywriting and can be had at a relatively low rate. Outsourced, you can get articles for about $5/article. Michael over at 99centarticles has a deal for warriorforum members you might want to checkout. I've used him before and he's worth the money. I've also outsource to industy analysts when I need something more polished; that rate is usually closer to $70/article for the good stuff.

Sales copy (i.e. a sales letter) typically runs north of $1000, with some of the best copywriters in the industry also requiring a share of the profits. Hope that helps!

Thanks! So outsourcers that say they can write a sales letter in the range of $300-500 will typically produce low quality work?? Also, if i am creating a product from scratch, i will need a site of course and a sales letter right?? or will i need both copy and sales letter..excuse my ignorance but its a little confusing..

No, not necessarily. You may be able to find some up and coming copywriters who are willing to do a salesletter for $500 or below, and the quality of their work will still be pretty decent.

If you're creating a product from scratch, you'll need a website for it and also a salesletter. The sales "copy" is basically the words in the salesletter, so they are essentially one and the same!

As Jason said, copy is just cool lingo for writing something. Now, copywriting is an art of writing copy in such a way that it almost forces people to want to give you money. When people mention copywriting, they are usually talking about their salespage. Having good copywriting skills in your salespage is a must if you want to make the most of traffic that you get to your website.

Since almost everything online is text or copy, selling anything online almost totally depends on how good you are at convincing and communicating to people to either make them want to buy something or to build a relationship with them.

Anyway thats just some tip you might find useful. Check out my website if you wanna learn more about copywriting.

Content Writing may refer to writing articles, ebooks, blog posts, reviews, newsletters etc.

Copywriting is the art of writing copy, which simply means sales letter.
People hire copywriters from as much as $1000 - $25,000, depending on skill, length and market.

You could go that route. It's what all the kids here like to do but that isn't the extent of a successful business or product website.

I've never seen a legitimate non-internet marketing product's website that follows the giant red text / testimonial blueprint but they manage to do OK.

What do you need... a website and a reason for people to want to buy (or sign up to your newsletter). A massive sales letter isn't always the answer.

Sometimes you need to step away from the group-think, get some fresh air and a clear perspective. You don't need to follow the herd.
