Monetising a difficult niche

I am trying to monetise a website that gets a lot of traffic, but have never found anything except google adsense that actually makes any money (and that is nowehere near enough).

The niche is Sharks and a lot of visitors come to look at pictures & videos - I suspect that this is the problem as the traffic is not in any kind of buying mode.

Some people come to the site looking for facts and researching the topic.. if anyone has any creative ideas for monetising it would be much appreciated

you could try with some amazon products... or if you can do it, go for some premium membership offers (recurring income)

I would love to do some premium membership type thing... I just don't know what I could offer them. Maybe pdf downloads of some of the information - fact sheets on sharks. Printable posters...

Adsense does get a little bit of income but the ads are usually irrelevant to the content. Mostly people in this niche would spend money on charity to help preserve sharks, but its unethical to try and make money in this way

If its proving hard, throw in some adsense and test it out!

Offer a paper writing service on sharks.

Yeah I think adsense is about the only way to go. Unless you were to open your own charity and split the donations 1/2 between you and 1/2 between some wildlife or shark-specific charity. (?)

Hi, I would set up a amazon store selling related videos. Maybe a pop under advert on premium content pages. Merchandising your website seems a safe bet. Try Custom T-Shirts, Unique Gifts, Posters, & Personalized Mugs | CafePress United Kingdom free service.. great way to add personal merchandise to your site.
How you display adsense really matters too.

I had the same problem with a very narrow niche that gets heaps of traffic but had nothing for them to buy and Adsense was showing irrelevant ads. Search Amazon for books on sharks and list those on your site (books with colour pics are pricey). If it's shark info they want, Amazon should have something in book form that interests them.
