Email list only vs Email list + blog

A friend on mine has built a list of 30k targeted users in his niche and in looking to ramp up monetization. The list comes from an established site which has no blog or regular updated content. We are discussing the merits of sending our regular emails with 2/3 full articles + affiliate links vs regular emails with article snippets and linking to a new blog section of the site.

My gut feeling is that the blog would be the best option as it lets new users explore old content too. It also allows expanded affiliate links, such as full table price comparisons of products etc. The main downside I can think of is that article snippets may not contain enough value to entice users to click through and read the blog.

What do you guys think would be the best course of action here and why? Any advice, ideas of experience is greatly appreciated here.

Thanks

I would say don't bother with the blog. You can just write articles to your list... a blog would help get regular search traffic to it too, but with a 30k list it sounds like you know how to generate traffic yourself anyway...

Most develop a blog first and try to build a list from it, seems you want to do it the other way round... I think it would work, but if I were you I would spend the time building another 30k list rather than building a blog... just my opinion though, and you are likely to get points of view from both sides about this, from people who do it successfully both ways... but I would just keep it as a list - as long as you are making money with it in this format..

I'd recommend using e-mails AND the blog but make sure
that you put all the content in the e-mail too.

That way, you benefit from increasing your web presence
and the people who prefer to read all your content in the
e-mail only can do that too.

(If you put only teasers in the e-mail your CTR over to your
blog post, your product or affiliate sales will likely suffer as an
extra click is required with a teaser vs without).

Either or. I dont think it matters, go with whatever way you prefer.
I like static one page one product sites, and have a link in your email
that points to one site or another as you go along. But thats just me.
There is no right answer, just go with whatever suits you best.
Or test it and see if one seems to work better for you.
