11 Year Old Domain - What's The Value?

A very good friend of mine has a domain allaboutme.co.uk which he originally registered 11 years ago on 17 November 1999 with the intention of setting up a site that's almost exactly the same as Facebook is now. Yes it's true, he had the original idea for Facebook(!), but like most people with great ideas he didn't get any further than registering a domain.

We've just been having a chat over a few beers and the topic of the domain came up - we were wondering if there is any value in the domain if my friend was to sell it. As far as I can see the two main features of the domain are the age (11 years) and the name itself suits a social network/personal profile type site, but I'm not expert on domains.

If you're into domains please let me know your thoughts!

Did he age the domain with content?

Or has it just been parked and not done anything with it. If it has been in the google index for 11 years and is focused on some good keywords, then it has real value.

If not, then it is at the same level as a new domain really.

The value of an aged domain is relative to a few things, but paramount is the age of the backlinks. I have backlinks to one of my sites going back to 1998 and they apparently mean a lot to the search engines.

If the domain was just parked, that won't come into play and the value of the domain may not be as great as your friend is hoping.

Yes it's true, he had the original idea for Facebook(!), but like most people with great ideas he didn't get any further than registering a domain.
And as far as having the original idea for Facebook goes, ideas are a dime a dozen. Execution is the only thing that counts. I had the original idea for a car that runs on internet gas, but so far...nada.
