Youtube offers text transcription, you can find it in the edit video section of youtube

when I tried to download it, youtube sends a captions.sbv

umm, how do you read that?

I want to add the text caption or transcription to a blog post

anyone know how to open captions.sbv?
#.sbv files #download #transcription #youtube #youtube captions

I'd be careful about using that text on your blog, as the transcription isn't always that great! Where it *IS* useful, is that if you can use your keywords intelligently around the beginning of your video, then you may get some SEO benefits.

I find the best way to use a transcript is to script my videos. This keeps them focused and leaves me with a full transcript to post on the blog afterwards.

    Hope this helps,
    -John.

Thanks John, that makes sense, write a script for my videos BEFORE I record them.
Only problem is I'd have to practice that, I seem to do one thing extemporaneously or off the cuff and am stiff/ stutter when doing so the other way.

On a related note I've decided I should join the local Toastmasters (public speaking club operating nationwide) to improve my seminar delivery. I tend to ramble like John Bradshaw giving a lecture, my audience forgives me for rambling if I'm delivering useful information, but it makes keeping it down to a specified length of time really hard

I'd pay heed to John's reply.

Answer to your question though, you can read a .sbv on "Notepad" or "Wordpad" if you're on Windows and "SynchriMedia" or "MovCaptioner" if you're using Mac.

In my experience their transcriptions are dire. You're better off outsourcing it or pumping the audio through Dragon Naturally Speaking

Can I transcribe a Youtube video without voice training "Dragon" for that person? I tried that once but got weird result. Will be grateful if someone shows me how to do that with good result.

    Hi all,

The advantage of youtube vs "Dragon", is it being a service offered online.

In any case, I would like to download the poor youtube transcription to then upload it to universalsubtitles.org as a starting point of my transcription effort

Anyone know how to download a transcription automatically generated by youtube?

    Cheers
