SEO Mission Impossible - Advice & Thoughts

Hi Everyone,

I have a massive challenge on my hands. Could I get some advice and thoughts please?

I have just started working for a company that promotes and sells a lost and found return service for keys, mobile phones, cameras, laptops etc

The problem is I can't have access to their site. Any changes I suggest, like internal linking, adding a sitemap, adding content will take days.

The name of the product/company is Lost Property Dept. I have been told I must get top page ranking on Google.com.au for the keyword "lost property". Exact match seraches for this are less than 200 for Australia. However, it has over 500,000 competing pages.

Anyway, today I was told that the company will be running TV commercials on the 3 major TV stations in Australia from Saturday night. They didn't think to tell me this earlier. They believe people will see the commercials and then search "lost property" when they get online.

I don't know if this will work, but to make my boss happy I need to improve ranking and quickly. The site is currently ranked on the 9th page for "lost property".

I am backlinking to the site try to accumulate 20 to 30 quality backlinks a day.

I have been told to register the product at shopping comparison sites as product page/store fronts from these kind of sites rank quickly. Is this true? Even if it is, with the broad keyword term "lost property" I am not sure this will work.

Here is the site; Lost Property | Find Your Lost Possesions with Lost Property Dept

Can you take a look and tell me what you think please?

Any advice would be great.

Many thanks,

Nick

    Hi Nick,

first of all your client has NO CLUE about SEO.
Saturday night..... now on page 9 and he wants to be on the first page in 4 days?
If so then that is a JOKE.

Your actual competition is page 1 and not 500,000
If you take a look at page one (the way I see it in my country, could be different in yours), then there are some good points:

    1. Your client has the keyword in his domain
    2. His hompage is optimzed for that term
    3. Top 10 aren't ranking for the homepage but for a page on their domain

So start backlinking to the hompage with just one anchor text and one only and that is lost property.

    Stop doing 30 per day.
Make 100-500 strong links that direct to the hompage wit that anchor text.
then start building as many links as you can to those 100-500.
Even if you can do a 1,000 per day, do it!

All you can do then, is keeping your fingers crossed.

    What some clients think..............hehehehe
Being found in 4 days for that term, incredible!

    All the best.

    regards,

    Mike

Your boss may not be happy if he saw this post

You better tell them if they are telling viewers to google them, make sure they google "lost property dept" otherwise they are wasting their money on competitors.

as for ranking before saturday, I think it is mission impossible.

Try submitting to local search engines and directories such as truelocal.com.au and yellow pages. it'll help.

See: www.lostpropertydept.com.au | Website Grader Report
it'll help. See E. Domain Info

    Nicholas,

Your boss is dreaming and you know that.
Second mistake - why won't he let you have access to the page? That's silly.

Anyways, what you want to do is doable if you launch a powerful press release and it gets viral. If the page won't get to page 1, the release may - and that's still publicity.

Not having access to on page factors can be a real challenge. In my experience there are only a few minimal changes that need to be made for your off page optimization to work (meta tags). Perhaps you can get them to update the meta tags at least. Then your link building will start to take hold. Best of luck!

Their game plan is not thought out, done properly or executed in a manner that gives it a chance at success. Walk away from these types of unrealistic, lack of team work company's. In this one decision making process alone is a indication of their chances at future success and with unrealistic expectations they build in a reason to not pay for services rendered.
