The money is in the list - Yes - but a list is worth MUCH more than that

Well, fellow warriors, what can I tell you. I might not be as tough a warrior as I thought, because I'm sitting here with wet eyes.

I'm celebrating my birthday today, and I sent out a message about it to our Danish lists. 2700 people in total. With an offer, surely; a nice offer.

The offer worked, and that's always nice, of course, so once again, I've proven to myself that the money is on the list.

But a list is so much more than that. A list is all the kind mails, I get from people. All the "happy birthday" wishes, I've received today. All the people comforting me, telling me how they are all much older, and that I shouldn't worry. I don't have to grow up

For once, I feel I lack the words to really express my feelings, and to deliver my message to you.

But it's important that you understand that a list is not a cash cow. I hate that expression, btw. A list is several human beings who have decided to give you their name and email, and if you treat them like human beings, the relationship you can obtain is worth much more than mere money.

I've made personal friends with people who started out being on one of my lists. Their friendship has added value to my life.

I'm grateful for that, and I'm so happy to be lucky enough to have discovered all this.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BRITT!!!

Thanks for posting this, too. Making a real connection with your list members really is the key, as you so aptly described. It's too easy to get caught up in a numbers game, when in reality a lot of smart marketers with relatively tiny lists earn more from it than marketers who don't get it but have lists 10X that size.

People want to feel special. They want to feel like individuals. And they want to be treated like a friend. It may on one level be irrational of them to expect those things from you as the list owner, but we don't get to make those rules. Success goes to those who embrace this reality and fully engage with their list members. You get it - and that's why you're successful!

Enjoy your special day, my friend.

    Sincerely,
    John Schwartz

    First of all Happy Birthday.

I agree with you 100%, if you treat them like human beings, the relationship you can obtain is worth much more than mere money.

I am not judged by the number of times I fail, but by the number of times I succeed. And the number of times I succeed Is in direct proportion to the number of times I can fail and keep trying.

    Happy Birthday

I agree 200% -- Just one question - how did you build that list??

The reason I ask, is that after reading your lovely post I thought "Now that sounds like a person whose list I would love to be on"... so I went to your sig link to see what you had to offer, and found an optin page...with no optin box!

    ??

    cheers
