Why You BADLY Need A Mentor

by Gerald Arno Banned

Everybody needs a coach, and also
big names get trained and coached
in particular areas to increase their
knowledge to the world.

It´s because of the mental and physical
challenge that we face on a daily basis.
Now, having a GREAT supporter, a motivator
and someone that can help us out is a MUST.

Which results did you experience since
having your own mentor, and how did it
change the way you approach the network
marketing industry?

All the best,

Gerald

I completely agree. If you are to succeed with internet marketing, or any business for that matter, the best way to learn and push your business on as fast as possible, is to find a reputable mentor and learn from someone who has been where you are. IMO, the most important thing about having a mentor is the ability to learn from their mistakes. This saves an awful lot of time and money and is invaluable in forming and expanding your business to the point where you are making serious amounts of money.

redstanford - Personally, I find that this forum is the single most effective place to obtain advice and information. There are some incredibly good mentors out there but it can be very difficult to locate them without having lots of bad experiences first. It's like a family here and everyone is here to give advice to anyone who wants it!

I couldn't agree more, we've all had mentors at some stage in our lives and having a personalized education in something directly from a mentor is better than anything you could possibly get elsewhere, just how it works.

I look at my students today, and it takes me back to the days I was sitting before somebody, listening intently while I was taught what I was.

It all worked out, and it will for you too

Definitely. A coach or mentor will help to dramatically speed up your learning curve, and this helped me tremendously with my IM in the beginning, specifically in terms of knowledge, strategy as well as motivation.

Just don't confuse the two. A coach is somebody that you pay for his coaching services. A mentor is somebody that has an emotional involvement in your success.

I dont know about the whole mentor thing honestly...

I know everyone says to get one...and I do see the value in being able to go to someone when you need advice.

However, you can do the same in a mastermind group, which you normally don't have to pay for.

Personally, I've never had a mentor before simply because there is only so much stuff you need to know in order to make great money online.

So my opinion is limited by experience, but I've made really great money online so far on my own.

I guess it also comes down to personality. You may hate doing things on your own and figuring out the nuances of what you are doing. I love doing that stuff...

You can become successful online without a mentor, I never had one.

Having a mentor may speed up the process for some people.

But I think having a strict accountability partner who ensures you don't f*** around and get on with actually implementing stuff relentlessly until you succeed, is more important than a mentor whom you correspond with occasionally.

Personally I have found that people who have come to me are struggling through a lack of focus mostly and a lack of confidence, Those things are not technical skills.

Having a "raving fan" to pass ideas by, someone who can coach you through leading you to your own researched conclusions, is an asset anyone struggling should consider.

The problem is that a lot of people think a coach/mentor is someone who gives you a "to do" list, a strategy, so they can win on autopilot.

Great to read your thought guys..

Seems like the definition of a mentor
is mostly individual and a question of
    how you perceive it.

    Personally, I don´t know anyone
who earns really huge and doesn´t have
a mentor or coach in some areas..

When you´re working with the right ones
you can increase the speed dramatically, get
motivated and inspired to take faster actions.

    Keep going,

    Gerald

That should definitely be part of the whole
process and we need a good community as
      well...

It´s same in a relationship and with friends.

The more ways you use to approach the
industry the better it is, and having a mentor,
master mind group, coaching, trainings, is KEY..

      Best Regards,

      Gerald

(reality check) Because the majority of the people here hardly make any money, let alone a full time income.

I agree. If you do deem it a necessity to have a mentor, though, a major goal of mine would be to quickly surpass the mentor (in earnings, etc). Mentors may have a place for some....at this point, though, it's not something I would PERSONALLY pay for.

I agree with you, that a mentor can have different
tasks, and it might be a private mentor that you pay
for, the mentor in a mastermind group, or wherever..

It´s really up to the individual himself, and you can
definitely learn many skills by yourself, although a mentor
          is here for a reason.

If you know top leaders such as Rachel Jackson and co...
these folks all have a mentor and are 6 or 7 figure earners!

A mentor can cover stuff that you might not be so good at
learning by yourself, and it´s mostly a faster way to imply
new strategies and ingrain powerful habits.

Investing in yourself, and in your education is mostly a question
of how professional and fast you want to move forward!

          Keep going,

          Gerald

There's no doubt in my mind that the right coach or mentor will dramatically shorten your learning curve, and if you don't have access to one, the next best thing would be to form a mastermind group of like-minded people who all want to attain the same goals and objectives.

Don't discount the power that a mastermind group can have, and with the tremendous reach of the internet today you could even form a virtual mastermind of people from around the world who meet regularly and hold each other accountable of their actions.

Yes having a mentor helps but that's not the only way of succeeding.

I never had a mentor and i am doing fairly good online.

Now if you are not motivated enough or if you are a slacker and procrastination is your friend then yes you need a coach to tell you what to do and when to do it.

I think that a mentor is good for some people, but other people don't need one.

If you're doing something like affiliate marketing, then you can probably get by without a mentor. It's pretty cut and dry.

But if you're wanting to move into a market and become an authority, you need to at least model yourself after someone who is already successful.

Some people need a hand holding experience, others can watch other's success and just re-create it in their own business.

For me, the whole internet is my mentor. When there are so many ideas scattered around the web, why would you need an actual mentor? I like to do things on my own, along with a lot of browsing and researching for tips and tricks that could aid me in my business. Tutorials, forum discussions, blogs, all these are quite the helping hang, but that's about it. I see no reason as to why I'd need a coach.

I agree that a mentor can be a huge help for some, especially if you are just starting out and are suffering from the all too common 'information overload' having someone knowledgeable who can keep you focused can keep you on track and help you succeed way faster then you may have on your own.

Personally, i never had a mentor persay. I had this forum and the (albeit not always patient..) encouragement and motivation from my family and girlfriend. Having people in your corner is a fantastic motivator, and IMHO has an even greater effect on your online success then anything else. The emotional support when things are bad, and sharing when the times are good is what made Internet marketing work for me.

And now that ive rambled on about nothing.. i will hush up lol.

And also, that was a great vid bgmacaw

As with others here I learned IMing on my own too but it was hard for me to learn anything in high school and now I'm an IM coach myself. So I experience what it's like teaching a group of people now and have more respect today for school teachers also.

Telling someone to just start affiliate marketing or start article marketing sound pretty easy to someone who knows those subjects. But to someone absolutely new to the internet, let alone internet marketing, that's a different story. First this is they don't even know what those terms actually mean.

So you tell them to do some searching on Google, look up "internet marketing" and do some reading. Now their getting into information overload and being pulled in many different directions without knowing which direction will take them where they want to go. That's even if they've set a goal and they know the direction they want to go? Through my own coaching people I find the biggest stoppers in people getting going are:

        • Negative Emotions
        • Seeking Perfection
        • Getting Ready to Get Ready
        • Looking for Clarity before Commitment
        • Being Productive vs Action
        • Asking "How" and "When" Questions before askin "Why?"
Now a mentor and a coach have two different priorities. A mentor will make sure you stay focused and personally work with you while a coach is dealing with a group, or a team, or people learning and is more interested in performance.

You can say that the role of the mentor is a "Facilitator with no agenda" while the coach's role is a "Specific agenda."

I don't want to turn this into an article here but hopefully you get my thoughts on needing a mentor. If you're someone who doesn't mind working on your own, but just having someone making sure you don't get side tracked and stay on course then a mentor is right for you.
