Where do I sell my Online Poker eBook? - Any Affiliates Out There?

So I have a close friend and family friend, named Anthony, who is a university student that has consistently been making money in online poker for I believe the last two years. He just does it part time while also enrolled full time in school and we worked it out that playing really low stakes, without taking on much risk, he makes 30-40 dollars per hour if you average out his earnings based on the time he plays. He is used to having friends ask him how he does it and he has been showing his close friends how. He even joked to me that he could train a monkey to make $100 per day playing online poker by doing it the way he does. He just came back from a trip paid for by his success at playing to an all inclusive resort in Dominican Republic where he participated in a tournament hosted by one of his favourite poker sites. There he met up with other people who are in the same "club" so-to-speak who know how this is done. He was also recently awarded by a poker site great tickets to an NHL game to watch his favourite team play.

I was the one told him about the idea to write a book. He hadn't ever even thought of it. We looked at some of the other popular books on click bank and they're all written by gurus who have won millions in online poker in past years who haven't been nearly as successful since. He basically told me that their strategies won't likely work for the average person anyway since they're playing higher stakes games and tournaments against other players. What he does is play lower stakes and it's basically grinding, but if you factor his wins and losses all out it comes down to over $30 per hour sitting at his computer playing poker in a completely legitimate way. I basically thought that I'm sure there are people out there who would like to know how they can make that much sitting at their computer, people who would rather stay home and who make less than $30 per hour anyway. The thing is for him it isn't some luck streak that made him millions. This is consistent earnings that put money in the bank for him. He doesn't even compound his earnings and play riskier games while risking higher amounts of buy in money.

So, the book isn't finished yet, but we've been looking into it. I'm not too worried about anyone copying our idea because the market is likely already saturated and its not something anyone can write because he really is an expert who makes consistent money on a regular basis while many of the people he plays against don't make a dime. This isn't using any tricks or anything either. He can show anyone how to make a profit either part time or full time doing what he does. Those learn from an overnight poker millionaire books really are a joke because what works for those guys at the top doesn't work consistently and doesn't apply to people who are just starting out.

So Google doesn't allow any ads related to gambling and neither does Facebook, so I'm guessing the only type of marketing for this kind of book is affiliate marketing through people who have well established blogs and poker info websites and that sort of thing. Where do I find these people? Is there really a market for this sort of thing anymore? I mean if it's impossible to market on google or facebook, do these kinds of things even sell? We were looking at doing it just on ClickBank.

Get the product on Clickbank - you're already in one of the best places for affiliates, just go and check out the Warrior Joint Ventures section to find other people who can blast your products out to their lists.

A legitimate guide to grinding out consistent earnings is something that even I would be interested in, so yes, there is a market. Get a good copywriter, find some affiliates, give away some free copies to warriors for reviews, and you should be able to sell a good chunk of them.

If you sell enough, your gravity will jump on Clickbank and other affiliates will find it and start promoting it. It's a vicious cycle if you don't make sales to start, but if you do it can be an amazingly helpful thing.

I've played enough online poker to know that $30 per hour is very realistic in low stake games for someone who knows what he's doing, "grinds" consistently and well, and is good at serious multi-tabling and using a heads-up display (HUD) - my own lack of enjoyment/facility with these last two points were what really put me off it, myself.

This sounds a really interesting product, which might be sold well with a "personal story sales page".

My reservation is that there's a lot of "glossy competition" and prices are low. How good, accurate and reliable the product is, to be realistic about it, is going to be a lot less significant than how good the sales page is. Even more so in this niche than usual, I'd say.

      Hello Nathan,

I am also venturing into the gambling niche. I am in the process of creating a blackjack software for card counting. I don't believe that I am allowed to PM yet, but maybe if you left an email address or something then we could get in touch and figure something out that will benefit the both of us. Maybe give each others products out as a bonus to our clients as long as they opt in to the other persons list.

I used to be a professional poker player. Although I never wrote an ebook, I did provide personal coaching for a while and it was a SIMPLE sell...

After I would play with someone at the poker table for a while (and likely take some of their money) I would approach them and let them know some flaws I noticed in their game then pitch my coaching. It was easy to sell since they already had been given proof that I know what I'm doing (because they saw me play) and I'd already given them results in advanced (by pointing out their flaws).

Of course I live in Las Vegas so it is much easier getting clients here.

    Nathan,

I'm always looking for good poker-related JV's. I have a 40,000+ poker customer and subscriber list since 2004.

Let me know when the e-book is ready to review/sell.

    Best regards,

Thanks everyone for all of the helpful replies. I wish I had the thank button but I guess I need to get ten or so posts first. Anthony and myself are still in the earlier stages of working on the book and want to make sure that it's complete and high quality before ever thinking of selling it. We're not interested in cranking out an e-book in a day like some of the WSO's claim to help people do. We want to deliver something with as much value as possible.

I have some questions that I'm hoping some people might know about:
-We'd like to figure out what price point would be most effective for this type of book.
-It would be nice to figure out an estimated conversion rate into sales for the amount of views to the sales page.
-We're wondering what the ballpark is for how many units we might expect to sell, at least a wide range estimate. Obviously that also depends on the price.

Ultimately it might be impossible to know these kinds of things without actually trying to sell it and playing around to see what works, but it would definitely be better if we could get an idea, even if its a extremely wide range. I'm sure that some here might know because they're already familiar with this market, but I guess there are ways that we could do basic market research to get a ballpark idea ourselves too.

Just a little bit more about what we're trying to accomplish with this:
Within the poker niche we'd specifically be targeting our product at people who are either just starting out or who play low stakes that would like to know how to upgrade their game and make realistic and consistent earnings per hour of play. We're not going to be spinning this as a get rich quick with no effort message. This is a proven method which works consistently that potentially could have people making more per hour sitting at their computer than they would likely make at their job. The world is full of people working in hot dog factories doing the same repetitive tasks for 10 hours a day making less than what we're showing can be done. Full-time or part-time someone who follows the method explained in our book can realistically expect to be making money consistently. Ultimately there are who know's how many thousands of people playing low stakes online poker at any given time, and among that group there are a small minority of people with this knowledge who take the majority to the bank. It's not luck, it's not cheating, and it follows all of the rules and expectations of the poker service provider. It's grinding the odds and playing in a way where you end up with more wins than losses by applying the same methods over and over. This isn't the promise of unbelievable amounts of effortless residual income, this is better than that kind of far fetched promise. Most of those other books make outrageous claims and don't live up to them. When an author claims to be able to show someone how to make thousands per day or millions per year, you wonder why they're bothering selling a book about it and not just practicing what they preach. Anthony is not that guy. Anthony is someone who knows how to make a consistent hourly average income from poker and he does it part time and has built up a good chunk of savings from it. He works for that money by following his method.

Given that we believe that this knowledge is worth much more than one of those other e-books that make sky high unrealistic claims, we would like to figure out what the best price would be for this knowledge. It'd also be nice to find out how many units have moved for similar products over their lifetime in the past as well as a realistic commission percentage that affiliates and joint venture partners would expect for actually moving our product.

We want this to be profitable not only for us, but for our customers who buy the book and our affiliates and partners who actually move the book as well.

Thanks again everyone for the replies, and if anyone else has any answers to some of the questions I have here I'd appreciate it.

It depends on your sales copy to be honest. You could make the best product ever and not make a single sale because your copy is bad - or you could have a crappy product with amazing copy and hit seven figures... before refunds.

      Don't skimp on the copywriter.

Agree with Kevin. Your sales page must establish and sell the VALUE - and you need to have some very strong PROOF that your claims are real.

Poker e-books like this sell from $29.95 to $49.95 (from what I've seen over the years). Poker video courses typically sell (on ClickBank) for $97 and often include an e-book and hand charts.

There are many poker e-books available these days, so you'll also have to DIFFERENTIATE yours and position and name it properly.

From the sound of it, you have a "system" or "formula" for making money at poker. This isn't a new concept in the market, but poker players are always looking for ways to make money more consistently.

I would suggest you peruse ClickBank and look at comparable products, including their sales pages.

Let me know if I can help - this is an area I have some direct experience with (publishing poker e-books, software and video courses).

        Best,
