Reckless Question... :)

Well, it's kind of an internet marketing question... But this one is for selfish purposes.

Well, I am working on my stand up act, and now starting a musical comedy career for myself (Just for poops and giggles).

Can some people give some creative tips on how I might promote myself, videos, and songs? Is there any strategy, or is it just promoting through links to a website, forums, and the normal thing? I've put some videos on youtube for entertainment purposes in the past with no advertising... Best one took an hour and got 22,000 views.

So, any creative ways to use the internet? (Except myspace, facebook, twitter...the normal promo stuff...)

Dustin, you've already seen firsthand how videos can attract a lot of views and attention. Don't discount the power of podcasts either, which your stand up routine should translate fairly well to.

Make sure you have the proper keyword phrases for your video and podcast titles and descriptions, and then link them all back to your blog. Set up a blog if you don't have one already. Describe what you do on your blog and post some of your better videos on there as well. If your stand up routine is unique and funny, I'd not be surprised to see your videos and blog go viral, and when that happens on a big scale the sky's the limit then.

YouTube is a good platform for comedy, with rising stars like Peter Chao, nigahiga and some others which I don't think funny (but get millions of views within days).

Like you mentioned, your best one got 22k views, which is quite good already.

I would say that the most ultimate, killer traffic is this : WORD OF MOUTH

Its even better than Online Viral Marketing. When a friend tells you to check something out, most of the time you would because you're curious about how good that thing actually it. So that's guaranteed to-the-power-of-2-or-more traffic. 1 - 2 - 4 - 8 - 16...

If your shows are good, Word of Mouth will activate itself and go viral both offline and online.

You should start a blog also, post your newly updated videos constantly up on it and text-based jokes too. If you want, you can even create a newsletter series like "Days Of The Jokes" (the opposite of Joke of The Day, get it?) and build a list.

How'd you get all those views so quickly?!? I'd keep making more videos and promoting them the same way if you can get that many views in only an hour!! WOWZA!

If you add a twist to your skill...

    1. You can make promotional videos for info products with your comedy touch.
    2. You can make good product review videos with comedy touch.
    3. You can offer your stand up comedy show package to Corporates.
    4. You can make good videos on "stress relief" with your comedy touch.
    5. You can also make good videos for niche products with comedy touch.

I am sure that people will buy your videos because any serious business talk with bit of humor in it always clicks!

Know where your target audience hangs out and put your name out there. Make friends and join groups, because they can turn into fans too.

Maybe you can also blog / vlog about tips or give away a free guide about how to be a hit stand up music comedian to establish yourself as an expert. "Act as if, until you are it." You can also give away free songs and or podcasts as samples, then if you've got good feedback, set the next ones up for sale and see how that works.

It's always great to see people going out there and pursuing their passions. Wishing you the best of luck!

YOUTUBE! Post videos on a regular basis! Network with other comedians and comedy fans. The key is to be consistent! If you put out good stuff you will see fans really soon.
