Loose your links = Google 1st page

Ok, so I have a fairly new blog (started Sept 1st) and I just realized that yahoo dropped all of my links except 2 which is basically the same link from a forum twice.

The most links I had was about 300 at a time. Most of it came from two blogs where my comments got included in the template or something so I got many backlinks from just one of the comments. But this links tend to reduce in number by time. I also had other links. I was down to 102 links a couple of days ago so I decide to build some. I did some forum linking Angela and Paul style. Yesterday I had 67 backlinks indexed according to yahoo. Today I have only 2. The rest just disappeared. Only one of the recently made forum signature link shows up.

Now the funny part. My blog is moved up to the 1st page of Google for my keyword for the first time.

So links gone SERP is up.

Can anybody explain that? It is just some update thing with yahoo or how does it possible to rise up in position while losing backlinks?

  • Google isn´t Yahoo. Do you have a webmaster tool account? How many links does Google reports there?

Did you try searching for your backlinks in Google with the search string "link:yourdomain.com"?

Yes, I did that I got about 50 results. Just don't understand why Yahoo just dropped all my links.

Alright.. as long as Google is showing you 50 results you can be rest assured that all your backlinks are fine. Keep in mind, Google usually doesn't show you all the links pointing to your site.

I guess Yahoo didn't drop all your links, but not showing due to other reasons. I even found the same problem with one of my clients' site a few days back but now it's completely fine.

Try using all the search strings to see if you can find the results in Yahoo:

        "linkdomain:http://www.yourdomain.com"
        "linkdomain:www.yourdomain.com"
        "linkdomain:yourdomain.com"
        "link:http://www.yourdomain.com"
        "link:www.yourdomain.com"
        "link:yourdomain.com"

Everytime you try to do the search, go to Yahoo! Search - Web Search
