IM launch In December... What Do You Think?

Hi All,

What are your thoughts about launching a new IM product in December...
Would you delay it till January?

I'd appreciate some feed back on this.

For me, it would depend on price point.

If it was a product under $100 then I would go ahead with it. If it is one of those "large ticket" launches, you might want to wait until after the holidays.

On the other hand, after Christmas, people are less likely to have funds available on their credit cards...

Have you looked back over the last couple years to see when products were launched?

Interesting points... I also read that people often use money they received in
presents to purchase these kinds of products, but you need to build the "i want it"
during the holiday season and follow through right till after the Christmas holidays when
they have (or received) the money...

Depending on the product's price point and what it focuses on,
Dec may be ok. The way the world economy is and the unemployment
rates are, people are looking for a solution. So you may be ok,
but I would need to know a little more about your launch.

The product's target market is Beginners to Intermediate Marketers that already tried
making a few bucks Online but are still looking for solutions and the price point
(although not tested yet) will be in the $77 - $67 range...

I'm launching a big product in January, as it's proven to be a good time for such launches. However, last year I had fantastic sales in the week leading up to Christmas -- quite unexpected since my products are business related.

So, IMO, I'd launch in December if it's just a low-priced product, but hold off until January for a big-ticket item.

Not sure I'd want to launch a big ticket item in January... I'd be competing with you!

Wouldn't want to make things harder for you LOL

          Thanks for your input...

OK, I'm going to go hide in my cave. Forget I said anything. All launches are off. I'm just going to sit in there with a volleyball named Wilson.

Hey kevin, I am with you on this and have seen the same results, However, with this years economic climate I would venture to think that Jan may be a better idea...not sure...no specific statistical data provided to compare within this economy.

          Thoughts?

We've also decided to wait until after the first of the year to launch my next product -- "Weapons of Mass Marketing" -- based solely on timing as well. We felt if we couldn't get it online before November 15th, we'll wait until after January 1st.

Depends on what your product does. If its a "how to make money guaranteed" product itll sell like hot cakes as people need money for christmas. Of course you'll have to prove that it works as well and you can just sell crap.

Ive sold a $1000/person course in the first week of december last year and it sold out in half a day so I know it can be done.

I would have to agree with the advice that it depends on the price point on if you should wait until the new year.

I think that if it is reasonably priced it could be successful as people may buy it as a Christmas present for themselves, a friend or a spouse. Good luck.

Now you guys are saying it depends on price, well lets just say
Frank Kern new super cool widget is launching a couple days b4
Xmas how many of you will not pull your CC out.

My guess is only a few will not pull CC out but a huge amount
will and we all know that so I guess it boils down to who the
      product owner is not price...

            Hi David,

Yes I agree. I just wanted to check

By the way, I enjoyed the recent video. Made me smile to hear a Swedish accent I've spent many a crazy night out in Stockholm and my better half is from Saltjo Duvnas.

Dec 18 was the date I saw.

I don't think the date is nearly as important as who is launching.

For a big name marketers it probably does not matter much.

Here are statistics from direct mail which you might consider.

Many people have found January to be the best month of the year in terms of cost per response but that's in direct mail. For those people in direct mailing, if January were treated as 100%, then this is what the other months would look like if you compared them.

      Jan - 100% July - 80%
      Feb - 90% Aug - 60%
      Mar - 70% Sept - 80%
      Apr - 60% Oct - 90%
      May - 60% Nov - 70%
      June - 60% Dec - 60%
