Top 20 Points to Consider for a Successful JV Launch

I am about to launch a new link building system early 2011 and have been doing a lot of research on how to promote a new product and get the right partners on board since this is going to be critical.

Here is what I have gathered so far in bullet form, what else is there to add? I'm hoping to get this list up to 20 of the best points with your help fellow Warriors!

1 - Send out personalised messages that show you have done your research and know something about the person you are contacting

2 - Try to build a relationship first, even if its on Twitter or forums so you're not a complete stranger when they receive your proposal

3 - Lead by mentioning what's in it for them

4 - Make it more attractive for them than it is you for

5 - Time is precious so show that you have all the promo tools ready

6 - Show that the affiliate system is rock solid

7 - Get endorsements from other big names

8 - Demonstrate how excellent the product is and what makes it unique

9 - Don't send a long drawn out proposal by email, put your pitch online, and send a short, casual email asking them to take a look

10 - Use a launch contest with cool prizes

11 - Know your figures

12 to 20 ?!

All great tips, thanks for sharing this information. Haven't done a JV as yet but plan to early next year so the planning probably needs to start fairly shortly!

Some points from me (2 years experience, 4 "launches")

    1. Go beyond just providing everything, spoon feed everyone who confirms and persoanlly / manually get their promo materials for them (or half of them won't mail out - people are busy at the top)
    2. Start recruitment 3-4 months in advance - especially if you don't know anyone, or are working with people for the first time.
    3. Ask for refferals - i.e. intro's to anyone else they know who would be interested whenever you get anyone on board.
    4. Most people just flat out won't get involved if you don't have a list... if you have a small list then try offering to mail both BEFORE your launch AND AFTER - that way they get some traffic, a safety net, and know the traffic afterwards will be 2-3x the first one... also goes a long way to building bridges and showing you are serious about your good partners.
    5. Be in it for the long haul and despite failure - lose your outcome dependance, aim to email 50 people a week, for 8-12 weeks, 20 of them will come back to you, 5 of them will become partners... but don't just send out 50 emails... make them all short and simple, but all unique, actually know you you're writing to and make your emails unique to them and demonstrate knowledge of them and their businesses... also mention any mutual friends who are already on board - oh, which brings me to:
    6. Name drop - include names of others who are confirmed to work with you (ask their permission, but they shouldn't mind really)
Above all, make sure you've done your testing and can show some conversion stats, make sure it works, as if you don't have these stats then 99% of people won't even look at you (and rightly so), and the 1% who do, well if they get involved and your launch bombs (doesn't convert), which it probably won't if it isn't tested or you haven't done it before, then you risk your entire reputation, and ability to work with these people ever again.... TEST...

      Thanks!

Could you clarify what you mean by having your own list and how that links to getting JV's on board?
