Making money with Google Custom Search

Hello,

I have most likely posted this in the wrong spot, please let me know if I have.

I was wondering if you could customize a Google Custom Search engine so the sponsored links look like normal serp results. (They don't appear in the side bar but at to off the serps.) I heard a rumor of some Islamic search site doing it but can't find any more information. If it's doable then you could make some serious cash if you get a lot of searches.

    I think what he means is that the sponsored links (a.k.a. PPC Ads) would appear in the organic search results not on the sidebar..

    So that when people click on the sponsored links, you get paid per click on Adsense.

    Anybody knows about this?

    Sorry to revive a dead thread but I think I can answer your question as I've recently been doing some research on google custom search.
    No you can't do what you're asking. Google CSE won't let you, and more importantly it's against the terms of service.

    You could technically use the google API and/or some screen scraping to grab search results and then use your own code to insert ads and make them look like normal results, but it's against the terms of service (they specifically mention that you cant modify the search results) and google would shut you down in a heartbeat - google's reputation has been built on their search results and they're not going to let anyone mess with that.

    That being said, google CSE does seem like an interesting way to make money... if you can figure a good way to get some traffic to your search engine.
