What's the best registrar out there?

Namecheap is very nice.

I'm gradually moving everything from GoDaddy to Namecheap and wish I'd done so earlier.

The only thing is that .info domains are cheaper at GoDaddy. Apart from that, Namecheap is perfect for me.

They give free privacy protection, too.

(At GoDaddy you get that free only when you register 5+ domains in one transaction).

I think you're right to leave GoDaddy for that reason. They may be legally within their rights, but the way they do that is "sharp", in my opinion. It makes me think of them as a scammy company.

I've never had a problem with GoDaddy, except that you have to very carefully read every page of their upsells to make sure you don't get roped into something like you're describing. When I got tired of that (about 14 domains later) I moved to NameCheap. Good prices, no endless upsells, just domains. Easy-Peasy.

Name.com is better because they offer you free private registration (Promocode:FREEWHOIS).
Their price is also very similar to Godaddy and they come up with promo codes every month for new registration and renewals.

I've been using DreamHost for ever: $9.95/year per domain and free private registration. As far as hosting goes, Hostgator has worked great for me too.

The highest vote, from my survey, goes to Namecheap.com. So, I think it is better than most registrars.

As for the BEST, I don't know.

I've used Godaddy for years with no problem.
But, I'm a creature of habit and have never
used another registrar.

The only thing with Godaddy is those upsells.

You've got to be careful or that $8 domain could
turn into a $20 ++ domain real fast.

Plus you can always find coupons to bring the
cost of your domain with them.

I don't know if they are the best, but
they have been very reliable for me.

My vote also goes to Namecheap.

Never had a problem with them and free private registration from the outset. No crazy upsells to go through. Quick, easy and simple.

I used godaddy in the past but I now started to move to namecheap.com, my reason is mainly the free WhoisGuard.

I gotta throw my hat in and say Namecheap as well. They have excellent tech support and have helped me resolve many issues quickly. Plus their names are cheap like they suggest.

Namecheap is just an eNom reseller, I use eNom directly. I had many with namecheap prior to figuring it out and moved them all.
I have used Namecheap, Domainmonger, Register, goDaddy, Network Solutions ( back in the day ) and for my money, eNom is the best bet and I have had a reseller account for about 10 years now with them.

Anyone knows any promo code for namecheap?

I use dynadot and name. Both are in my opinion top-notch.

Moniker is cheap and reliable with consistant 7.99 .com's, but namecheap is best if you use privacy as theirs is free.

Meh, I use what I feel like at the time. I have some GoDaddy and some Namecheap - I actually prefer the automatic renewal in 99% of cases.

Instead of bitching about what godaddy does... take a lesson.

They are a very successful internet business for a reason. I dare say that Bob Parsons is more successful than any guru who has ever stepped foot in the WF. Learn from the man.

Most of the domainers I know use a Godaddy reseller account for prospecting (cheaper registration prices) and Moniker for the ones they want to keep or use for live sites.

It really just comes down to what you are going to do with the domains.

I prefer the dns controls in my Godaddy reseller (Wildwest domains) account personally for small inconsequential sites but for sites where I have a lot of email going out and more active promotion I generally use Moniker.

Namecheap has built a good reputation and provides ok dns interface... nothing to write home about. They are actually a very fairly new registrar having gained ICANN accreditation around December 2007. Previous to that they were an Enom reseller. They offer competitive pricing but it is cheaper to register using a Godaddy reseller account... especially if you are doing bulk.

Domain prospectors will set the prices as low as possible on their Wildwest domains reseller account and then set their account up for "discount purchasing" inside their admin back office which takes the price down a little more.... so if you buy or renew hundreds of domains a year it can be a good savings...

Other than that I'd say its a toss up between Namecheap and Godaddy and Moniker... I just think that Moniker is a little more secure and friendly toward entrepreneurs. I have never known them to hold anyone hostage like Godaddy has on spam complaints and I have spoken to them about that concern and they assured me that they did not behave in that manner.

Again any domain where you are not doing a lot of email marketing or don't have affiliates who are doing a lot of email marketing should be just fine with Godaddy or a godaddy reseller but you may want to consider someone else if you have a high email volume domain.

Marty, there is actually an auto-billing option within Godaddy that you can select or unselect. If you unselect it, you will not be billed automatically, and this entails having to manually pay for a renewal. I believe that this auto-billing option is selected by default upon purchase of a new domain, so for future reference when you buy a domain name there, all you really need to do is unselect this option to avoid being automatically billed for a renewal.

With that said, some of the more reputable registrars that I can wholeheartedly recommend include Namecheap and Moniker. Both are excellent, and their prices are comparable to Godaddy.

How about internetbs.net? They offer free whois along with their 7.99 domains. Price is almost the same as Moniker. Same quality and the price is right.

Namecheap for the win. I've been using them since 2005 and currently have more than 100 domains with them. Superb service.

yeah I have a few domains with Godaddy but I stopped using them. They went up on their prices with their domains. I use namecheap maybe you can give that one a try. Their domains cost about 10 bucks. I noticed that auto renewal crap that godaddy is trying to pull. Good thing that I changed my settings before they can charge me. Greedy ass people right?

I'm moving everything from godaddy myself except .info. I've been using netfirms and have been very pleased. Right now they PROMO495 which will get you some number of $4.95 names and $7.49 after that which includes free privacy.

I will also vote from Namecheap.

I have domains with quite a few registrars and namecheap is by far the best one of them; never had a problem with godaddy either, but some have heard one too many horror stories to be comfortable registering new domains with them...

I simply hate godaddy, high renew prices, lame admin area etc. Namecheap is the best for me sofar

I had that Website tonight added when i bought a domain yesterday from GoDaddy with the discount code.

I cancelled it after in the Products section though so i don't think ive been charged anything for it. I'll just have to take more notice to what they put in the cart next time i order.

Never had problems with godaddy but have heard some horror stories so it's important to spread out your domains.

I also use Namecheap and 123 Reg for .co.uk domains.

Name cheap is so far the best one

I have been with godaddy for over 5 years. They are pretty solid service which offer 99 cents .com occasionally but their private registration is ridiculous.
