Mike has done something and needs a few beta testers to make sure it works out alright...

I like this idea. Imagine getting 1000 people "wanting" to be notified the moment you post a WSO...powerful stuff. Not like a mailing list you basically 'force' people onto. This is a whole different beast.

Thanks for the comments so far. Please test it out by creating an account, logging in, and adding some notifications for yourself.

You can easily pause and delete notifications, so no worries of getting unwanted messages.

Do we have to use our Wf user/pass? because I just signed up using a different user/pass and no message was sent via pm neother did a box show up to enter a code.

You have to use your Warrior forum username, but you can use any password you like. Perhaps you used someone else's Warrior Forum username and they got the PM

Very cool service. I like how you can setup an alert via keyword as well! I had that WSO alert setup but I was getting every single WSO so it was getting to be too much email. I like your setup a lot better. Thanks.

Alan,

Thanks for your comments. Also, as you probably notice, you can setup Daily and Weekly notifications as well, if you don't want to get so many emails.

It groups as many WSOs as possible into one email, too, so it will not fill up your inbox.

For example, if you chose the keyword "free", and there were 4 WSOs posted with that keyword since the last notification was sent out, it will send out all 4 listings in one email.

I am thinking about backdating the when the alert was created to allow it to pull in some WSOs more quickly. Would this be OK with everyone? It would really help in testing.

(What I mean is if you added an alert for "BIG Mike" right now, you would get an alert for any post he made in the few days or so.)

Well, it *almost* worked like a charm!

I noticed that it only sent you the WSOs that had the keyword "free" at the beginning of the title, but did not work when the keyword was somewhere else in the title. This is now fixed, and will find the keyword anywhere in the post title.

Cool! I was meaning to ask if there was like a Google Alert kinda thing on the Warrior Forum because I notice that sometimes some dudes here get to reply very quickly every time some specific topic pops out.lol.

Anyway, wanted to ask on the How it works stuff:
1 - Are we limited enter one keyword only per entry? Or can we use comma like keyword1,keyword2,etc.?

2 - If I add the keyword "discount", will I get notified of discounts too?

  Currently you cannot enter a comma for multiple keyword phrases. You can enter more than one word like "membership site", but it will only find that exact phrase, not each word separately.
  
  I may add the ability to use comma-separated keywords and other more complex possibilities in the future.

OK, so now that some of you have been able to receive some of the notification messages, I am wondering what you think of the format...

Is it easy enough to read? Does it contain enough information?

Should I use HTML emails instead of plain text?

Would love to hear your thoughts on this, as well as on any other parts of the system.

A quick comment:

I have noticed that a few people have entered in "partial names" for the Author Notifications - this will not work. The full and exact username is required to get Author notifications sent to you.

I will make sure this is more clear and easier to do shortly, but just wanted to give everyone an FYI.

Also, I am still looking for feedback on the message format, as well as any other features you might want to see. Feel free to pass along any criticism, as that is how I can make this better.

Mike... what about amping that feature up a bit... instead of just limiting it to WSO's, why not make it so you can get notified if a particular user starts any thread. Of course you will want to modify it so users have the option of being notified of 1 or the other, or both.

I see your point. Maybe you can work with Allen, and try to pull from a 1 hour old Warrior Forum cache file. I don't even know if that is possible with vBulletin. That way you are pulling only from a cached database, and not the live database.

But really it shouldn't be that big of a deal. You are only working with new threads... not all of the threads. So I would think the effects on the forum would be minimal. The thread creation code could be modified to handle the request as a thread was being created. That way your site is not running a query, it is just accepting notifications from the forum.

I don't know how your site gets the information so I am just guessing...

Hey this is cool! Just added 2 of my favorite Warriors!

There was an error message displayed at the end of page when I create my account ..(below) but it all went out fine despite the error message. Below is an extract of the message so that you may wanna to fix it..

I got a closer look at the site. The pay it forward option is pretty sweet. So is the stats. If these were there before, forgive me... I've only been to the site a couple of times... joined right before the forum platform changeover.

Bug report: On stats, any view that is 60 days or more, your blocks are messed up. They are moved way over to the right and are narrow.

OK, I moved the WSO Notification System to its new permanent URL, and everything seems to be working well.

Please do add the option of a daily email with ALL of the WSOs added. There was someone who did it at the last forum and I really liked it because I never missed a WSO.

I am not sure what the benefit of such an option is, as you most likely don't want to see *ALL* the WSOs that are released. Plus, there are about 40 new WSOs per day lately, which makes for quite a long email.

If you want to see all WSOs, why not just subscribe to the WSO RSS feed, or visit the forum or WSO Tracker page?

I may reconsider if there is enough demand and legitimate need for this feature.
