Groupon-type Group-Buying Site

Hey guys,

I'm launching a group-buying site similar to Groupon.com that caters to a specific industry - I've managed to get about 1,100 opt-ins to my list in the past week using Facebook and a Squeeze Page, but I could really use a quick Warrior brainstorming session!

What would you do to quickly build a list for a site like this? I'm also wondering how I could work an affiliate program where I pay affiliates 10% of everything their sign-ups spend for the first year...does that sound like a good idea? Is that something affiliates would be interested in? Any ideas on how I could implement it?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Even if this isn't your niche or type of site, just throw ideas out! Anything would help!

All the best,

Russ

    Hey Russ,
I'm starting a daily deal site next month and plan to market through Facebook and a squeeze page like you. I noticed that you didn't get any feedback or suggestions on your thread. Great questions. Did you learn how to leverage Facebook for great results? Are you using affiliates? I would love any insights that you might share.

    Thanks,

Well my initial thought is that while you're getting started you could partner with some companies to cross-promote your product. That is, they give out flyers to their customers in exchange for a discount on their promotion to your list. I don't know if this would work in your industry/niche, but it would certainly work for groupon in general.

Otherwise it is all a matter of where your target customers are. If facebook is working can you scale the campaign and move it over to Google and so on and so forth? Just some thoughts.

I'm not sure how the backend of a Groupon-like service works, but I assume that vendors/retailers pay you to promote them via discount?

If so, why not appeal to some of the businesses you've secured deals with? If they're active in social media, offer them a discount if they promote you to their existing lists. Have them mention you on FB, Twitter, their website, etc..

A contest is also a good idea for generating some advance buzz. Depending on your niche, you might be able to run giveaways through popular blogs in the niche - or just on the social media hubs of your business. The easier you make the contests to enter (and the better the prizes), the more signups you'll get.
