What does, "this ad zapped" mean?

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I have noticed that on just about every site I visit I see a black block with yellow writing in it that says "this ad zapped". It looks like it is "zapping" banners, ads here on WF, and just about everywhere I go. This is very frustrating as I can't see what is going on because even some headlines are "zapped".

I would appreciate it very much if someone can solve this puzzle for me.

I believe it's caused by an ad-zapping program installed on a web server.

It's supposed to make web surfing faster because the pages don't need to wait for ads to load from ad servers.

Thanks Croz. Any idea how I can remove this? I have not changed any browser settings, but have downloaded some programs. I have a fast wireless internet connection, so I didn't have a problem with pages that open too slowly.

I'm in serious danger of sounding stupid here. By OS do you mean Online Server?

Just take your computer in to Best Buy and let them handle it.

That would be VERY VERY expensive for me. I live on a different continent! I'll just scratch around and see if I can find something that shows me how to fix it. Maybe Google has an answer. Thanks anyway -sometimes it just helps to discuss a problem to get the grey matter working better.

If you are using windows, I would go to the control panel and sort the applications by date.

If you see a funny looking application, uninstall it.

If you don't want to do that then back up all your data and restore your pc to it's factory settings.

                How do you do that?

                1. Shut down
                2. Power up and hit the F11 key a few times.
                3. Choose System Restore.

That should save you time and money.

                All the best!

Wow! This is crazy! I just did a Google search on : what does "this add zapped" mean, and my Warrior Forum question came up No1!!?? Mmmm. This is giving me ideas.

Anyway, I found this answer from someone on another forum:
After looking at /usr/bin/adzapper.pl, I discovered it doesn't even look at /etc/adzapper.conf as one is led to believe (since it is created when you install adzapper). Instead, I solved my problem by making a slight modification to /usr/bin/adzapper.pl. Theres also the recommended way editing /usr/bin/adzapper.wrapper to do it too.

I'll see what I can do with this. Maybe it will be helpful if there is anyone else with the same problem.

It might be some weird plugin or toolbar. Try uninstalling everything that you don't need from plugin section both on mozilla and internet explorer. Do a quick scan for malware. Use ccleaner, to clean up cookies and other temporary files.

I think Squid is zapping those ads. I remember when I went to high school, I would always see those three words whenever I used the Internet there.

I also have a suspicion that it could be Squid that is causing this. I saw that on a Google search.

Is anyone else's eyeballs popping out about the fact that my original question here was no.1 on a Google search within 5 minutes? Total number of results for this search - 626. I was just shocked and amazed to see this. THIS WARRIOR FORUM IS SMOKING HOT STUFF!!

Have you tried downloading and running malwarebytes, in case there is something nasty on your computer?

            Hi rosetrees,

I tried the Malwarebytes - did a scan and the problem still persists. It did, however, remove 2 items found to be a threat, but unfortunately not the ad zapping thing. Thanks anyway for the suggestion. (love your cat)

lol sounds like you inadvertently picked up a anti-ad program. Look at your browser toolbars and see if you picked up a new one. And look at the programs on your computer. you probably downloaded it along with something else and installed it. Your anti-virus software probably didn't pick it up cause It didn't consider it a threat, it considered it a program.
I stopped trying to get different software to block ads, I just learned to tune it out. Same with commercials.
