Alexa Is Not Accurate

....No I dont mean our very own Alexa Smith, I am talking about Alexa the Web Information Company - The Web Information website.

I have a website that gets around 160,000 to 180,000 visitors a month and its ranked high around 190K.

Now I got another website that gets 1600 visitors a month and it is ranked in around 150K.

I am also noticing that tech sites or Internet Marketing sites do better then websites in other niches. I have websites that cannot crack a million, but do pretty good.

Now what I do find accurate on Alexa compared to 6 months or before is the clickstream (kind of scary) to learn your competitions top traffic sources.

      Yes inaccuracy in Alexa ranking come to my notice several times for my sites. But after all this, I still believe some how on Alexa.

      Well there should be some way to integrate Analytics with Alexa then it will give accurate results not 100% but better then what we are getting right now.

    Everybody knows A. is not accurate and, to be honest, few people care about it.

    Keep in mind A. is gathering the data through their toolbar... so niches where people are most likely to use the toolbar tend to do better.

    I never use their toolbar so even if I visit your site 1,000 times they wouldn't know about it

    I had a talk with someone who does use it, but there sites close to top 10,000. What they said, was at that stage lots of companies to take it as a indicator of a websites success.

    Maybe when you get top 50,000 it matters, I will let you know when I get there

      LOL....Yeah that would be looking for trouble. I had a feeling that someone would come calling, so using the word Alexa around here, you gotta be very clear. I was gonna add she is a smart warrior and she is accurate, but that would just be sucking up

        Closest thing I'll ever get to a real hug, for all the help/advice she gives, and for her patience and consistency.

        And yeah, the Alexa rank stinks. Don't pay attention to it; it serves no real, useful purpose, I think.

          I think she is now the more famous "Alexa" of internet marketing. I remember when people used to quote the Alexa toolbar all the time. Now, who cares about Alexa, I don't use it for anything.

          Back to the website Alexa...The clickstream I am SHOCKED how accurate that is, look at your Google Analytics and look at it and you may find a good way to scoop out competitors traffic.

    Another thing about Alexa is that it counts pageviews, not unique visitors. For that reason, sites like forums and big ecommerce sites tend to rank higher - and in niches where people are more likely to have the Alexa toolbar, as others have said.
