    Thanks for sharing.

I would like to add that women often are more likely to be triggered by the in-direct than the direct messages.

Tell a man he looks good, he responds: "Thanks".

Tell a woman she looks good, she responds: "Thanks". (and thinks "why did he tell me that? and did he put pressure on the word today? does he think I look bad all other days? etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. )

Actual thoughts diversifies by different personality types of course, but the main difference is: Men mainly uses left brain to process information, women uses both hemispheres. Men think "straight", women thinks in "layers".

They look/feel beyond what that is stated in black on white. Therefore, communicating with them between the lines often is more effective than usual written conviction. Paint the mental pictures before they do.

EDITED: To express my point clearer.

I find it interesting that what he's describing is just how to make people buy in general. All the advice he just gave - with one exception - is just basic sales psychology.

So when he says it's ridiculous to suggest that both men and women think and buy in the same way, it's amusing to note that all the things he says are true of women... are just as true of men.

What he's alluding to through most of this is that men are less risk-averse than women. They're more willing to take risks, less concerned about failure, and not as worried about the effect their decisions might have on others. And for this reason, when your primary market is men, you can just trade on pure hype. It's worked for years, and it's not going to stop working anytime soon.

But if you want to capture women, you have to actually be persuasive. Which works on men, too.

LoL Caliban. You know how hysterically funny I find discussions about women waged by men.

You come closest on it, as usual. Where you miss, at least you give it a logical inference. You've an interesting marketing perspective when you keep your clothes on.

Okay - so I'm gonna give away some FEMALE stats, forwarded from a FEMALE..........

We aren't housewives with jobs any more guys. We're angry, we're educated. We're experienced. We're activists when something pisses us off. More openly ferral and feline. And we're really sick of being condescended to - soft or hard sell approach? Come on guys ---- tell me what you think. You guys want to talk what women want -- talk TO one. Soft or hard sell approach.

I know my thoughts dont count because, what am I?....umm a useless male ....apparently?

Just had a quick vision of you getting angry, smoking a cigarette and burning your bra whilst you were typing your post. LOL

Never insinuated anything of the sort. What I was laughing about is the fact that I see so many posts about what women think and they are always men talking to men. Never asking women what THEY think. Um.........there's women in here, too, ya know. WE KNOW US. WE are MARKETERS, too. Get it?

Just had a quick vision of you getting angry, smoking a cigarette and burning your bra whilst you were typing your post. LOL
You got the cigarette right. I don't burn clothes. I burn wood -- just like guys do. Wouldn't ever burn my bra. Just because I insist on some logic doesn't mean I don't dress up pretty sweet when I feel the urge. I actually like men. And I am actually pleased when one opens a door for me or slides my chair out. I'm an excellent cook - and give one hella massage....etc. But............. when it comes to buying products.........what am I then? You can slam me any way you want if you feel the need to defend yourself or lessen my input.............but can you sell to me?

As someone who's done extensive character research for both writing and acting, I have to say this is really bad advice.

        People lie.

If you're lucky, you ask people what people like them want, and they tell you what they want you to think they want those people to want.

This should not be confused with anything remotely like reality. And if you have the audacity to say "that's bullsquat," it will become about how you could possibly know it's bullsquat, and the original question gets lost.

To think the buying habits of each sex can be written down and followed as a set of guidelines is kind of silly.

However, there are some general rules and techniques that have worked and will continue to work just based on the way that men and women differ in their ways of thinking.

There are women that buy like men and there are men that buy like women. The trick is to sell to the majority!

I am in a niche that caters to women and in all my testing I have noticed these 5 things.

    1) Independent women, usually do not mind spending money.
    2) Lets be honest they think differently to us men. And they communicate differently than men. Especially when I get email messages from them.
    3) Sometime they can be a nice desperate market of buyers....but this depends on your niche. Think of the need to get pregnant niche. When they are trying to get pregnant, they will try almost anything to increase their chances of conceiving. Now that is a very nice hungry market.
    4) I think all men have feminine side , (as CDarklock says) and all women have a masculine side.
    5) Both men and women are insecure at times, but women tend to be more conscientious about how look and feel. They like to be in fashion, and have a nice physical appearance and come across as attractive to both males and females.

If you can hone in on some of these points, you will work out that selling to women can be very lucrative. Actually Just writing this gives me another very good niche to try out down the track.

For men selling to women is an art form lol... If your market audience is female I highly recommend you go to your local book store and pick up a copy of "Why She Buys" by Bridget Brennan, it will open your eyes.

All the markets I am in revolve around middle age women, very challenging for a young man in his 20's... But I have my sales letters converting organic traffic at 6-9% ...

"Men buy a car because of the V8 engine and women buy because of sturdy cup holders!"

Thanks for sharing. I also agree that it only follows the same general rule in selling and that is to use psychology in how to drive people to buy your product. This is a great help though for those who want to target the women market but don't have an idea how to do so. Good read!

I can already feel the backlash that is sure to come, for what I am about to say, but...

      Men buy based on logic
      Women buy based on emotion.

      -Dani

P.S. There are women who think like men- they're usually business women.

Yeah - okay Dani - you just keep right on believing that. Men have tried to believe that for centuries now.

You obviously have never watched a man buy a dress suit in response to a pretty woman's raised eyebrow and smile - or a sports car --- or watched a woman buy a washer and dryer or hand tool........or hand gun.

P.S. There are women who think like men- they're usually business women.
And everyone knows most women aren't in business, right? You'll excuse me if I wonder whether you are braver than lucid or just being silly?

Boy, it's getting hot in this kitchen. Not that I think a woman's place is in the kitchen. Or not. Maybe it's a man's place. Or somebody's. Someone has to be in the kitchen. Or we don't eat. Or we could just go out to eat. Yeah. Just go out. Everybody likes that. That way, the woman does not have to clean up. Or the man. Or the kids. That's why we have kids, right? Got to have somebody do the work around the house. What else are these kids going to do? Who's running this show?

So... where were we? Oh yes. selling to women. Do we HAVE to? Ok. In obedience to "if you can't take the heat...", I'm tiptoeing back through the door I came in...

Let me see if I can actually add some value this time (instead of being myself).

A man will spend $2 on a $1 product he needs, just because he needs it. (That's me, especially for tools for my workshop)

A woman will spend $1 on a $2 product just because she saves a buck. (That's my wife and she'll proudly admit it!)

    Based on this:

KEYPOINT: Women want the same respect you give men. They don't want to be patronized or pandered to. They recognize when you are B.S.ing them with political correctness and would rather do business with someone who irritates them than someone who doesn't respect them.
I find it interesting that the women of this thread are reacting to being "put in a box", and that men are visualising brah-burners.

Both genders buy based on emotions (that comes from senses and thoughts). It is how our brains process information that is the difference. Leading to different starting points for emotions to evolve.
