Thanksgiving and Black Friday

Wishing Happy Thanksgiving for this week to those who celebrate it

I'm interested to know what sort of offers, sales, discounts etc WFers are offering on Black Friday this week.

What do shoppers expect? A massive price cut? Free product?

Are cuts only on the Friday or do they last all weekend?

And how do you keep customer happy who bought at full price before your sale started?

I'm hoping that this thread will allow people who hadn't thought about this to glean enough information to drive some extra sales this coming weekend.

Cheers,

Neil

Yup, thanksgiving means nothing to us Brits. Shall we talk about them while they're asleep?

Need to know a bit more about it so I can poach some of their sales....

Lol at the early posting, but it's a really good question nonetheless. As a marketer who markets to the US but doesn't live there, you certainly need to keep on top of what's going on! I'll be very thankful for some useful answers here too

I notice that Amazon is running a "Black Friday Deals Week" which gives them scope to drive sales throughout this week.

They have different things every day that pop up for a day then get replaced with something else. So they're using "get it now or lose it" offers to drive quick sales.

    Cheers,

It's typically massive discounts on items.

Most of the sales do run through the weekend but the catch with Black Friday is often the in-demand items that are heavily discounted are in limited supply - They will advertise 100" super plasma mega TV on sale for $100 but they only have 20 in stock - which is why you have the crazy early morning rushes on stores. But those items are the hook to get customers in stores.

Also, the Black Friday weekend discounts are probably the best of the weeks leading up to Christmas.

If you like to shop, like to save, like dealing with crowds and other obnoxious shoppers then you'll love Black Friday.

      Pretty much.

Stores also open very early. Last year I think it was Sear's that opened at 3 AM.

Also if I'm not mistaken the Monday after black Friday is called web Monday because that's when US internet sales also really pick up the pace.

Thanksgiving is just another reason to stuff yourself with food
and then watch American Football while partaking in alcoholic
    beverages.

    From an Internet Marketers' standpoint,
Not much work will be accomplished.

Last year, my sales increased daily from the Thursday to the Sunday and totalled $1,329 for those 4 days.

    So not completely dead.

I have to concur with your findings, Neil. Last year I found the Warrior Forum to be especially busy over the holiday weekend, and people here in America are typically in a buying mood then because they're stuck at home with not much to do except eat, watch tv and browse the internet for good deals!

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are some of the busiest shopping days in US retail history!

A lot of stores will bring more money in this weekend (and the weeks running up to Christmas) that they will the other 11 months of the year

There'll be a lot of people buying stuff online too, as many will be too lazy to brave the chilly weather and insane crowds at the stores over the weekend!

I am Canadian and here in Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated in October. It actually is celebrated the same day as Columbus Day in the USA, so the holiday falls on a Monday. While there are sales, it is not nearly the same scale as what happens with Thanksgiving in the USA and their Black Friday sales. It is common here to have a Thanksgiving feast and watch hockey and/or football, either NFL or CFL.

My American friends tell me there are massive discounts on products, but that you must get up mighty early to have any chance of actually being able to buy the merchandise. Best wishes.

I should have looked at the next cell on my spreadsheet. Sales for the Monday last year were over $3,000

Is the Monday a holiday too?

By any stretch of the imagination, this information should be VERY useful for anyone considering an online sale over that 5 day period.

I've also seen some "pre Black Friday" sales online so you could do both!

I am offering a "buy one/get one free" ebook deal this week.

I try to be ahead of the crowd since I expect this to be a very BLACK Friday. In today's economic climate, the end of the month hasn't been too good to me

I use Aweber's exclude feature (I am excluding the list that already bought one or the other ebook)
