Question about registering domain names

Let's say you want to register a domain called blablasoftwaredownload.com

Would it be better to also register downloadblablasoftware.com

And maybe even blablasoftwaredownloads.com

Would it give better results in searchengines to have both registered? With one being the main domain name and the other being forwarded to the main domainname. Or just a waste of money?

You can drive yourself nuts trying to cover all the bases with domain names. Typically, most folks I know, myself included, just get the best name as a dot com then also buy the .net & .org.

Anymore and you're chasing your tail. If someone wants to compete they can just add a hyphen or two or tack on an extra word before or after, etc.

If you've found something really 'sweet' then you could try for a Trademark on it and that would give you quite a bit more leverage if anyone used that in their Url.

This is so true, what I will suggest you is just to be sure your main keyword in on the domain name, create optimized content and start creating backlinks once you start no matter how many others get into the game, you will have far more backlinks than them.

      Hope it helps

      Thanks for the replies.

All keywords in the domainname are important (nameofproduct+download), I know that soon alot of people are going search for exactly this (also in that order) but there might be a good amount that add an "s".

Also wondered if that "s" could make any difference. If users search for "nameofproduct downloads", I guess it will automatically search for "download" as well, and maybe even put this one above "downloads".

I'll just start with the .com (nameofproductdownload), maybe add the .net later.

Does the order of the keywords in the domainname matter at all besides for it to look pleasing? I Think not?

Sorry for all the questions. Like you said Doug, so many bases can be tried to cover. :p

I really suggest you consider just one keyword rich .com domain.
If its a popular niche keyword you choose then it might be wise to have a .info or .net, just to secure them for later use.

You cant keep the competition out, you can only deliver better stuff than they do .

I wouldnt look for domains that are variations of your main domain though , that will dilute your efforts to get ranking and remember a domain name does nothing until you start getting traffic and building a list .

I don't think it's needed until you think that your product is going to be hugely popular that some people can take benefit of by directing misspelled or similar words domain to their money pages.
