Uh-oh! Darren Rowse is moving into your niches!

FeelGooder: the Backstory Behind My Newest Blog

He is going for the jugular with his new blog, aiming for such, oh, regular niches such as Health, Finance and Relationships, you know, the most profitable niches out there! He also says he is looking at product creation (get away!), so it should be obvious how he is planning to leverage the runaway success of his ProBlogger/Digital Photography empire, and I don't doubt he is going to clean up!

I say all credit to the man, I've got LOADS of respect for him, he is one of the most straight-up guys out there. Frankly, those niches could do with some integrity inserted into them. What do you think, should the gurus be shaking in their shoes?

Why would they be? There is plenty of room for everyone. There is no way he can reach 100% of the market.

Even still, this time he has the disadvantage of not getting into the niches BEFORE they got big. That had quite a bit to do with his previous success with the blogging niche.

Not to say he wont be successful, but there is no reason for me to quit either.

I have never bought into the scarcity mentality that seems prevalent in today's society. My feelings echo Clint's. There's enough room for everyone. There's more than enough money to be made in any niche, I think.

The truth is, the same people who buy my reports, buy the reports of others in my niche too... no scarcity... people should focus on getting their market share and not worry about others... just offer what you offer, and bring quality, over deliver... everything else takes care of itself.

IMHO people shouldnt be writing reports just to write reports, its kind of an insult to the buyer when you sell them info on a subject where your knowledge is built upon "hearsay" and not "experience" because otherwise there is no way you can understand all the variables... but thats not the way its done...and for most it seems acceptable to write about things they have no experience in...so who am I to have an opinion? All I know is what I know... but I know it well.

I entirely agree - I don't write about something unless I have a wealth of personal experience to draw upon. Let's hope Darren has a similar attitude (and the credentials to back his stuff up).

I also agree that there is more than enough for everyone. Success begets success IMHO.

Oh, I was just engaging in a bit of hyperbole - I quite agree none of these markets is saturated. I am just interested to see what his approach will be, as he is well-known for his integrity and there is a LOT of scamminess and exploitation in these niches. It will be interesting to see how he sells his products because most marketers in these niches take it as given that you need to tap into people's desperation and need which can be very exploitative at times, as I say. Perhaps there is Another Way to sell these kinds of product, I will be interested to see!

        I think he's a local Melbourne lad.

If it is who i think it is, I met him a few times.

He's an Ed Dale disciple who ran a blogging challenge... which was a bit lame to be honest. Assuming it's the same guy.

Given that the OP joined here in October.. it wouldn't surprise me if it's a publicity stunt of sorts.

Heck bring it on. I can't compete with ProBlogger because it is already established real good and it will take me time to grow to his level.

If he is in my niche market starting right with me I don't care about him beating me to the search engine rankings. Long as we are on the same level, I am not scared.

Well said. I agree with this and there seems to often be a cult mentality with some of these aspiring IMers. I can't see why frankly. It is great to use someone's experience and knowledge to help you succeed but when it gets to the point of worshipping them and sycophantic deference I draw the line. I wish to focus on myself and what I can do.

Like I said, it was just a little hyperbole on my part (every post on this forum has to be a big sell ) as Darren is a big name who has been very successful in the 'make money blogging' niche (if you are starting a blog, his blog archive from the last 3-4 years is a must-read, that should keep you busy!).

Actually, I can think of plenty of reasons why competition is bad for me! Come on, it's all very politically correct to say that competition is a good thing for the market (OK, let's say it is generally), but wouldn't you want ALL the Google traffic for some hot niche?! What was that Gary Halbert said about people claiming they 'love a challenge' and all that, and how that's nonsense, in reality we want it EASY!

Anyway, it's really a moot point, I was just flagging up some interesting news, those who have followed what Darren does will find it most of interest since it's quite a departure for him.

      Whoopeee!

      Who cares?

I doubt the gurus won't lose any sleep over it.

I certainly won't. What people tend to forget is that customers seldom only buy 1 type of product about a niche... let me ask you... do you only own 1 ebook about IM?

The cyber world is so vast that you only need a tiny microbe of market share to make a living. Better yet, if you sell a high ticket item to your microbes... you'll make a very comfortable living.

Yeah, all this JVing, there MUST be not enough competition! Sigh, suppose I had better get cracking in those niches too. Actually, I would have by now, but haven't really found a model/product that I am ethically happy with. Most of that stuff ranges from C-R-A-P to downright unsafe medical/financial/relationship advice - no offence.

(I should qualify that - most of the stuff I get shoved in my face around the net, at least)

"pseudonyms", now theres a word you dont hear often enough... you never know on the internet whether you are having 3 different conversations with 2 different genders of people...who behind the scenes are really only one gender, and they are exact same person.... lol

Some people really "game" fulltime with the "pseudonyms"... it still amazes me how much nerve it takes to do that, or how to wrap yourself around the mentality that enables one to.

Not that I want to try, but its interesting to observe.

Thought I might chime in on this one - a couple of days late.

While I'm flattered by some of the sentiment in this thread - I don't really feel it is warranted. Yes I started a new blog on a fairly broad set of topics - but I certainly don't think it should threaten or concern anyone for a number of reasons:

    1. I echo the 'there's plenty of room for everyone' sentiment - having blogged in a number of pretty crowded niches I've experienced it for myself. In fact as many have said here it opens up opportunities for collaboration and growing the niches when new sites start.

    2. these sites take years to build up - my own two biggest blogs have been going 4 and 6 years. They've certainly grown a lot but are not the biggest blogs going around. I certainly hope FeelGooder grows to be as big or bigger - but it won't happen over night or to a point that anyone would feel the impact :-)

Anyway - for those in similar niches - I hope we can connect and work together down the track!

Hee, I should once again point out as the OP that there was no intent to criticise - I was just drawing attention to an interesting bit of news in a gratuitously sensationalist way (look, this is Warrior Forum .

On the contrary, Darren's blog was one I followed very closely when starting out blogging, it was different because he did not go on about how much he was earning all the time (mentioning no other names) but offered massive value to his readers and always kept a down-to-earth and honest approach. Anyone starting out blogging ought to go back and read his entire archive!

That's why I respect him hugely and think he will be very successful with Feelgooder, but will also inject some much-needed integrity into some of these niches, that are currently rife with scammy and unethical behaviour from marketers.
