Godaddy Private Registration...A Quick Question

Hey guys,
Ive recently set all of my domains to private under Godaddy. I now see "Domains By Proxy" when performing a whois lookup.

I have a few questions about this....

1. Is there anything that I should do to prevent losing these domains to this organisation? I have them all set to auto renew - but just want to be sure.

2. Can the search engines (Google mostly) see beyond this? Is it possible they can still see who actually owns the domains now?

3. Can this have any adverse affect on my rankings?

4. Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks
John

    1. What do you mean "losing these domains to this organisation?

How do you mean? You're concerned that because GoDaddy is now listed as the registrant in the "whois", they'd be allowed to legally assume control of and steal your domain?

That's very unlikely to happen, even with GoDaddy I think.

And even if they could do that legally, and were shady enough to do it, they could quite easily change the registrant info of any of the domains registered under them anyway, couldn't they?

It's possible that some whois page, somewhere, has been cached in one or more of the search-engines, and therefore your old registrant info is still visible on the 'net.

Also, there are services (such as the one provided by DomainTools) which record previous whois history (among other stuff), and if they happen to have that on file, anyone who pays for credits for that service can find out your info. Including Google (who maybe - and probably do - themselves have a way to see a domain's "history", anyway, if necessary).

Not really ... why would it? You're not breaking any policies by doing this. Google doesn't really care who owns a domain or who is listed as the registrant. So long as you're not doing anything "Black*Hat" on your site, they'd have no reason to penalise you.

I don't think so. Don't sweat it. I, like a lot of others', use domain "privacy protection" on all of my domains. It's never presented a problem for me.

It MAY be possible that Big G tracks whois info, but I think it would be seriously on the bottom rung of their concerns. It would seem that they add up so many other factors if they were trying to discover some kind of link wheel or whatever that domain registration would only become a factor after many other connections and associations.

I think a lot of us have become a little too paranoid about the G.

Wait a minute! Do you think they're reading this right now?

    Man, I'm screwed!!!
