How I am getting a 10% conversion rate

Hi guys,

I can't believe It. One of my sites Is getting a 10% conversion rate. For about every 10 visitors I am getting a sale. When I wrote the sales copy for the site, all I did was pretend that I was the customer of my own product, and what would I want to see when I visit a website. You are your own best critic.

When you are writing sales copy for your website just think of yourself as your own customer and what would you want to see when you are visiting a website. Anyway that's how I am going to write sales copy from now on, give It a try for yourself and see If It works for you.

I do a few other things to my site for high conversions, but I mainly focus on the above.
#10% #conversion #rate

There are actually two factors that contribute to this:

    1. Your sales copy; and

    2. The source of your traffic.

p.s. Congrats. If we could all do as well...

BT you are absolutely right. When you write content of any kind, you need to constantly be asking yourself what value you are providing your visitors. I do my best to do this when writing product reviews and regularly enjoy 8-10% conversion rate.

    That's great converting!

I'm still on around a 2% on my review sites but I have recently written a review that got 3 visitors in a few days and 1 sale - Perhaps I should be looking at that review for inspiration although I'd obviosuly need more traffic to see whether it was a fluke or not.

10% and I'd be laughing my ass off to the bank

    Keep up the good work!

What kind of marketing are you doing by the way? Is it a review site? Your own product? Is it literally a sales page or a user review?

    Thanks

Great post. It is definitely important to do this when practicing ethical marketing. When you put yourself in your customers shoes you end up tearing down all the rubbish hype, the popup boxes, the "not even $12997, not even $6997, not even $1997"... pricing structures.

Also, traffic source does have a huge impact on conversion rates. for example, if you rank for "buy (product name)" you may have 10% or more, whereas if you have "about (product name)" your conversions would typically be lower.

This is what I was going to assume also when I read the thread. Good either way though, since the traffic is free.

    This is truly great advice!

This is an easy way for any internet marketer, be they new or old, to write a fantastic sales letter that converts like crazy.

It is always great to think of your customers first and put yourself in their shoes, for then you truly have the power to unhinge their minds and give them what they really want.

I wish you the best of luck with your future IM plans, and also recommend that you give PPC a try.

That's how you MUST write sales copy... ALWAYS!

Unfortunately, not many people find it easy to genuinely step into another person's shoes, and see things from their point of view.

But when writing copy, you MUST do this.

That's when I laugh when I see comments like,

    "I wouldn't buy that..."
"That sales letter is too long for me..."
"That tactic wouldn't work on me..."

    Doesn't matter.

The question is how your PROSPECTS will respond, whether the sales letter is too long (or short) for your PROSPECTS, and whether the tactic will work on your PROSPECTS.

So in discovering that you need to think like a prospect, you have discovered All-Time Copywriting Secret #2.

    Congratulations!

PPC is different than writing a full blown sales page. You really have to laser target your audience and words in a teensy package and don't have the benefit of writing a lot of text. But in some ways that can be really interesting. I did exceptionally well with my first campaign. I really pinpointed my desired keywords and audience by studying competition and knowing what was working with my organic traffic.

Your 10% conversion rates are awesome. Putting yourself in your customer's shoes really works. Congrats!

Firstly, congratulations. Secondly, the real test is keeping it up their. Unless you have had a few thousand visitors to that same site and you are still seeing conversions up near 10%, then it is probably a little too early to call.

I once had a website that had a sale after 10 visits. Technically, my conversion rate was 10%. However for the next 200 visits I made no sale. So my conversion rate was now 0.5%.

You need to have had a fair amount of traffic (thousands) to the exact same offer before your conversion rate becomes statistically relevant at all.

I actually think thats a hard way to do it. I find the easier way is to imagine one of your customers is sitting down right next to you. What would you say to him to try and convince him to buy your product. It makes your copy a lot more personal and less hype driven.

And dozens of people would copy his sales page word for word and try to move in on his niche and positioning.

While it could be very useful to us to see how he wrote his copy, so that we could try to learn from it, most people would try to steal his thunder and the proven revenue model that he has earned.

Wow, well done! Yes, I agree that you should try and replicate your success in future projects but I wouldn't show anyone your current sales page.

You might want to split test the page to try and identify what is actually causing the conversions or if it is actually just the style of writing or layout/format.

Congratulations on having great conversions. When you drill down to the bare essentials and strip away everything else, there are really only two factors you need to look at, just like Bill has explained above.

First, your traffic needs to be targeted and receptive to what you'll be offering them. Once you've taken care of that, then all you need to do is write the sales copy in a manner that will appeal emotionally to them and also has a strong call to action.

If you have these two elements in place, then you can be pretty much assured of high conversions. Of course, you can do even better by split testing several different sales pages to refine your sales copy even more.

Yes it is no real suprise to me.

One of our membership sites and product converts higher than this. LOL.

    Why?

It comes down to three very important things.

    1) Good sales copy - Tick, you mentioned that. But...

    2) Targeted traffic, the more targeted the better. How are you going to make sales for a dog training product if you are sending your ad to a cat juggling site.

    3) Your offer. Our offers leave no stone unturned....we tell them everything and try to leave one question in their mind. "WHY SHOULDNT I BUY THIS STUFF!??????"

I think getting higher conversions that 10% is doable....but it aint easy. As the good man dan kennedy once said. Its in the offer stupid! Find out what people want, and give it to them in a way they cannot say no to you. Then you have a real winner.

    Celente.

Conversion rate is not all. EPC is the important thing.
I prefer 1% conversion rate with $100 profit per sale, than 10% conversion rate with $7 profit per sale.

The price of the product is the 1# factor for conversion rate.

Always check your EPC and think how you can increase it.

But even with a $7 product it is really nice.

Just realized this thread was almost 2 years old...but what the heck I'll contribute (hopefully I can help someone with this response).

I've notices something similar in my sales funnel, with regards to the first step (my squeeze page). For awhile, I was getting fantastic opt-in #'s, but those leads were not translating into sales.

I took a step back, and realized one very important, yet super-basic concept:

What I was actually giving away didn't 100% match what I said I was giveaway! It was close, but I can see where some of my subscribers would be frustrated by this...so I tweaked the headline & copy slightly to make sure that they matched what I was delivering perfectly...

Guess what? My conversion rates more than doubled.

I may have gone off topic a bit, but for those of you who are getting traffic & leads but aren't getting sales, make sure you only promise exactly what you plan on delivering!

If you get the traffic from search then, the sales page must be very clear and simple to understand and reading that page the visitor convey to purchase the product.

If you get the traffic from paid services like email marketing, JV partners, then there will be some less sales.

Finding what will work the best is all about testing and I do like your idea of pretending to be the customer. That is very important whenever writing any content.
