Question about Membership sites thats boggling my mind

Ok..if I set up a membership site and have content that unlocks on the 15th of every month, how can I do that if...

..This is what I don't get...

Person A joins the membership site at launch

Person B joins 2 months after launch and is at "months 1"

How does the software know which month they are at if they are logging into the same membership site?

There is software that will drip content and do it based on what day a person joined.

Updates don't have to happen on the 15th of every month - but can happen every 2 weeks beginning from your initial sign up date.

Aweber and autoresponders work this way too - which you can also set up a membership with. They sign up for the list which can email them a link at the interval times you set up ahead of time, and the link can change week to week to new download pages.

exactly. Part of the programming is what boils down to the "if" statement, in basic programming logic.
if (currentdate-joindate > 31) then (allow articles from month 2)
of course, the EXACT programming language to do just that, exactly, would be far more complex, but the underlying LOGIC is the same. joindate and such, easily stored in a DB. The visibility-rules that allow content to display are also stored in DB, and IF certain conditions match, THEN content allowed to display. It's always "there", just whether it is allowed to display, based on conditions.

simple whenever a member joins its his first month, IMO it works the same way as autoresponders.

The software counts time from the date of joining. Content A opens up X amount of days after the client joined, content B becomes available Y amount of days after joining and so on.

If you want a technical answer...

When someone signs up, the date of signup is pushed into the database.

Through the php coding, the software can compare the current date to the one in the database.

If there are 15 days between user signup and the current date, it can open the content.

Since the database records a date for each new person coming into the system, each persons' maturity date will be different, and the software will only open content to those people in the system for the set number of days.

Amember. There's a bit of a learning curve as far as installing it and setting everything up, but once you get the hang of it it's super powerful and customizable.

  • you dont have to use software to drop feed.

You can also use Aweber to drip feed every 15 days from the day they include their E-mail. All you simply do is find a means to lock the page with the Newsletter sign-up so that members have to go through a process (be it free or paid) to get to your page.

If not someone could just copy the page link and give it out. Thus you lock it and funnel people to it.

wow guys thanks for the response. I want to have a membership site similiar to what the inside of mobile monopoly looks like. With tabs like "Home/content #1/content $2). Have all the content on the page under the appropriate tap, instead of just sending e-books. Which membership script is good to use for this? Thanks!

Good advice! However, where is the "How to set up a membership site" thread? Is there a WSO about it too?

There many ways you can do this.

I use amember and easymember pro.... but I must tell you there are no right or wrong ones to use. Both have drip feed content available and both have pros and cons.

I think if you use a few WP plugins you would be able to do this for free.

This has been discussed many times, and having a flourishing membership site is not as easy as you think.

I even know one guys using aweber and drip feeding pages, as he coaches his studets....ie week 1 , week 1 email goes to the user with the page of videos then week 2........ its pretty ingenious way to have a membership site, without actually having a membership sites. Its more like a course. But he is susceptible to hacking.

Anyway, there are tons of ideas in here, hope that helped....I am sure will get what you are after. Make sure you use your time wisely and spend time getting it right. YOu can make alot of money doing this, if you do it the right way.

      Hey folks,

I'm totally non-technical so I can't give any advice on setting it up on Wordpress or any of that malarky.

But here's what I do: I use Login Frequency Marketing. That's it. Nothing else.

Why? Because it's a breeze to install and it's a breeze to setup with products. You can deliver then straightaway or time them to appear whenever you like.

For example I've a membership with 4 Facebook training PDFs. The customer gets the first one when he joins. But the other 3 are delivered once a week.

All I had to do was upload the PDFs and tell the software when I wanted them delivered. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

And it doesn't just delivered products. It can run software too. I've got another site that lets members create one time offer pages. And all the software sits inside the membership site.

Check out Login Frequency Marketing at Login Frequency Marketing membership Software (No affiliate link... it's just that good.)

    James,

Surprised Robert Puddy has not show up here yet :-)

His Login Frequency Marketing script will do all you require. It has drip fed content based on when a member joined and loads of other stuff that I think matches what you are after.

It's not the cheapest script out there, but it is one of the most feature rich and designed and coded by people who run membership sites for a living every day.

    Hope that helps.

How does the software know which month they are at if they are logging into the same membership site?
I use LFM on all my sites.. I have probably 15 or so.

It's better laid out than amember.. in that things are grouped differently in the menu. You create all the pages inside the admin area... and can set what date it's shown to the member, and to which member level.

I've worked with the free BFM as well, and LFM is a lot less confusing.

TPW was pretty spot on with his explanation.

The way LFM works is that the date the member signs up is stored in the database. If you know what date they signed up then it is quite easy to find out (with programming functions) when they have been a member for a specific period of time.

LFM has an option for each page that you create, which allows you to set how many days the member must be active before they will see that content - which makes it quite easy to 'drip feed' new content each month.

Hey you can even do it with an autoresponder - easy!

The problem with using autoresponders for product delivery is that email is very tricky, and you never know how many of your members don't get your email on any particular mailing.

Also, with autoresponders you can't automated access when someone stops paying. If you use an autoresponder and a member cancells then you have to manually remove them, but if you use a membership solution specifically designed for time release content then the system will remove the members access automatically without you having to do anything.
